Default do you think that cozzy have had there day???

first off well done to everyone at totb, was great seeing the cozzys go BUT after years of dominance against scoobys, evo's and pretty much everything else etc in the street racing scene has the crown finally fallen? having seen just how much the game moves on each year at totb have they had there day, theres a couple of cars that seem to have potential to compete,(scottys , rods) but it seems that the supra's,skylines,scoobys,evo's/rovers have upped there game so far on that the cozzys are now trailing behind with not much hope of ever being able to be a match for them in the future let alone beat them? there were soooooo many 10 second cars there it was amazin.
anyone else agree or disagree???
a year ago i would have had no second thoughts about racing a rover or scooby and fully expect to win, these days i wouldnt be sure as they seem to have evolved into some proper quick things.
are cozzys becomin a 'classic' car now instead of a pure out and out racing car???

i had the same thoughts after today mate

it really does seem like newer technology is taking over in the performance stakes , but i dont think RS ownership is about that tbh...

it's all about the FUN and excitement when the Ford Boost hammers in

saying that i was bored with the boost a bit which is why i went back to the XR but i still got a MK1 XR2 Turbo for the rush

I would seriously consider a Mitsi Evo or a Scooby as my next "performance" car tho...

it all depends on your type of motorsport, for the road there still there in the top 10 of all road cars, for straightline ability - there not really in the top 30 for your average car, but take your skyline in the forrest, or through the tight n twisty's - i rest my case

minority market fen, no-one bar a handful would pick a sierra/escort for a base model to mod to such a level to compete at totb

oh and kev "mcsnapper" sharp has been running 10's for years now

Compare the bugets and build costs of these 'proper quick cars' and ask yourself if they are the sort of car that as many cossie owners could afford to buy/modify and run! Cossies will always be around because they are cheap to buy, relativly cheap to tune and you don't have to take them to a specialist every time they go wrong due to their simplicity.
As for them becoming more of a classic instead of a race car don't forget most of the cossies on display at totb are road going cars and in no way built purely for racing!
There is deffo no doubting that the Jap stuff is the quickest over the 3 elements of totb but thats a once yearly event and cossie owners on the whole do not aim their cars at just one day a year enjoyment!

Most cossie owners/enthusiasts probably don't have the cash or desire to build a competative totb car imo. I know i havn't anymore as there are far better things to spend time and money on than being quickest down a runway and around a load of cones for 5 mins of glory

no worries jules and spot on re 5 mins of glory imo

theres a rule of thumb that a wise chap told me years ago that seems rather apt....

if your going to build a fast car then i suggest you pick one thats fast to start with

an evo is out of the box 20 times any cosworth is, end of story, thankyou please

they may have had their day - but theres no bigger satisfaction of winding the 14 year old box upto speeds in excess of 140mph and thinking to yourself "this is fooking scary"

We all knew the cossies were old and the jap stuff is miles ahead but its still the fun in taking part and trying to show some of the jap stuff a thing or two.

Big respect to the cossies lads taking part though.

Cossies, RS's are about wanting to own that car. They're classics and people buy them with their heart, not their head

its evolution ,the newer cars are going to be better, the Rs thing is all about pedigree in motor sport
which i think the likes of the skylines dont have ,scoobys are good at rally ect but the cossie was an all round super car

Are we talking Cosworth or Ford?

was great seeing the cozzys go BUT after years of dominance against scoobys, evo's and pretty much everything else etc in the street racing scene has the crown finally fallen? having seen just how much the game moves on each year at totb have they had there day, theres a couple of cars that seem to have potential to compete,(scottys , rods) but it seems that the supra's,skylines,scoobys,evo's/rovers have upped there game so far on that the cozzys are now trailing behind with not much hope of ever being able to be a match for them in the future let alone beat them? there were soooooo many 10 second cars there it was amazin.
Too me your askin two different questions? When I was a spotty 18 year old kid, The RS Cosworth was a car of legend, it was a mythical beast that you saw once in a blue moon, as i grew up it was a car I aspired too... even now I don't have one, but if things changed and i could afford one I wouldn't even consider another car in it's class... BUT

If I had the money needed to compete in TOTB and compete with any margin of competetivnes(sp?) and I wanted to keep it Blue Oval... I'd be importing an XR6, in Oz they are now tuning them to 1000bhp and in real terms the cost is on a par with the top Cossies...

Failing that why not go for somthing like the new Duratec Engines? when the Cosworth first came out people scoffed those who said the engine was capable of 500bhp, and yet the 2ltr Duratec Engine has more in comman with an F1 Engine than the 80's Cosworth, surley these are the things people need to be looking at to compete with the Jap Technology, rather than looking back at what was Great?

You may not be thinking this if Rod had not had such bad luck, Lee didn't do too badly, and lets wait to see Martin's new Escort

I agree Jap cars have the edge, but compare budgets and they must be huuge,

Cossies are 20 years old now! Things damn well should have moved on in that time IMO.. the satisfaction should be in having showed the way for so long whilst everyone else has caught up.
There's got to be something slightly wierd about someone who puts that much investment into a car that performs for a few minutes a year down a runway.. and not much use for the rest of the year?? Must have a really small penis to need that to make up for ya life
In everyday terms there is still not much about on the road that will show a half tidy cossie the way, even 20 years on, and certainly not for the Ł5K that the cossie costs you

rods car aint goin to do a 1/4 in 9.3 secs though is it, its a top speed car aint it? martins wont do a 1/4 in that either is i suspect, as for budgets, the amount of money martin/kev/rod have spent on there cars must be 10's of thousands, im not on about wethere cozzys are still quick im talkin about wether they can be competitive against stuff in totb ever again

Aye true James.. hence the careful use of the term "not much"
I was careful not to mention scoobies in those terms, cos the blinkered ones amongst us would get on their high horse.. LOL

Exactly mate. When me and my mates take our cossies out the only other cars that seem to give us trouble are other cossies. These high power scoobys, evo's and skylines are rare as fuck and not usually found on the road. I dunno any other car you can chuck six grand at and have yourself 400+ bhp, keep it oldskool.

rather than spend lets say Ł10.000 on a evo or skyline and then spend a futher Ł25.000 on it to go fast if its just to go fast then buy a cossy and spend Ł10.000 and hve a super fast car for less money if the aim is just to go fast .. cosworth are bought for what they are and still on the road not alot can keep up

Well said mate, there's not many motors that can keep up with an average stage 3 cossie, let alone when we tune em to 400+ bhp on the road.

Cossies still rule the streets, you just have to make the right decisions when modifying them, such as mapping, rear beams, big brakes etc. A well set up cossie will be ultra reliable and peroform just as well as the newer machines.........bear in mind I'm talking about on the road

If people are prepared to spend the money then the Cossie is just as good as anything else out there.

Few examples:
Martin Hadlands Escos 195mph
Gareth Lloyds Escos winning GT battle
Rod Tarrys Saph 200+mph
Norweigan Blue WRC Escos would trash most things at TOTB

At the end of the day people who have the money want something other than an old Sierra

Definatly, the cream of the crop could easily hold there own at the top, but it depends on how much you want to throw at bein the fastest car known on the internet and other circles. You dont have to be the fastest n a straight line to enjoy your car!

after today you're nearly all so right, which is why I have a Mk2, so when I get whipped I can say "but it's a classic car!" lol. Strutt brace guy (don't know ya name, soz) My truck was parked at the end of the row to your cossie, it looks nice.
"SKYLINE OF THE BEST IV" it should be called.
