He reckons that the mark on the piston is not much more than having "cleaned it" where the valve hit it, so fingers crossed it will last for sunday at least.

We have a spare head ready to go back on, so i guess its worth a try now anyway.

He cant get a decent image of it on his camera, so we're just going to plough on regardless.

Have told him to make sure there are no sharp edges on the piston (det hot spots)

Hopefully will be running my mid afternoon if the parts arrive in time.

Lol, cheers for the advice phil but he is just going to crack on with it now, all the parts are being delivered anyway so may as well go back together now and given a try.

Only visible damage to 1 piston, how did the other valves get bent?

aRSe, they all hit the pistons obvously, but no marks that you can see.

Sorry Chip, it's a little clearer now, i saw this post before the first one

Bummer, i think Rob must have used up the last of his luck at 'The Bull' on Wednesday, when it wouldn't start, popped the bonnet to find the coil lead had come off! Anyway hope he gets it patched up, and gets there

You have PM

Rob has the block cleaned up ready now, he has taken the head off the 170K miler standard valver that we slapped the throttle bodies and nitrous on and did the qualifying for TOTB with and is cleaning that up ready to go on, that old girls doing plenty of work at the end of her life.

Gearbox is back on now as well more or less.

All looking like its going to be back together in time

Not going to be 100% running at its best of course, but looks like we are still going at least

Lol, thanks but no thanks keith mate

He's still cracking on with it as we speak, he has noticed some cracks in the valve retention caps (common problem on these engines) so is having to swap them from one head to the other before he can proceed.

Not hard, just another fiddly job he was hoping not to have to do.

If it wasnt for bad luck, he would have no luck at all!!!!

I got spares if you need them Chip/Rob

Head (had a lot of skims so will need thick gasket) full of good valves
LET block

Might not be of use to you, but if you get desperate i might be able to source the parts you need

Most important thing, this IS racing, not TALK racing, shit happens, and it's being dealt with as best possible to a tight deadline. Come on guys, get it together, get some times in (in the 'A-Team' stylie )

Do you know what caused it to happen in the first place though?

Finger's crossed it holds together for the weekend!

Almost certainly the last person to change the cambelt on this bottom end (it was a secondhand one that he only fitted this week and we havent really had a chance to do much to it) for some reason took the bottom pulley off to do so (you dont actually need to so its best left done up really!) and obviously didnt realise it needed doing up to 180lbft, so hadnt done it up tight enough, and it worked loose.

Looking forward to seeing the car in action, and Rob seems a nice person too, would be a shame not to get a chance at running the car after all the efforts he's put into it.

Shows real dedication this, all fingers crossed it will pay off
