Update on our TOTB Astra - 14 bent valves - 1 damaged piston
Rob now has the head off, 14 of the valves are noticeabley bent, and one of the pistons has visible damage to it.
Im just waiting for him to send me a picture of it so i can advise him on what to do.

He reckons that the mark on the piston is not much more than having "cleaned it" where the valve hit it, so fingers crossed it will last for sunday at least.
We have a spare head ready to go back on, so i guess its worth a try now anyway.

He cant get a decent image of it on his camera, so we're just going to plough on regardless.
Have told him to make sure there are no sharp edges on the piston (det hot spots)
Hopefully will be running my mid afternoon if the parts arrive in time.

Sorry Chip, it's a little clearer now, i saw this post before the first one
Bummer, i think Rob must have used up the last of his luck at 'The Bull' on Wednesday, when it wouldn't start, popped the bonnet to find the coil lead had come off! Anyway hope he gets it patched up, and gets there
You have PM

Rob has the block cleaned up ready now, he has taken the head off the 170K miler standard valver that we slapped the throttle bodies and nitrous on and did the qualifying for TOTB with and is cleaning that up ready to go on, that old girls doing plenty of work at the end of her life.
Gearbox is back on now as well more or less.
All looking like its going to be back together in time
Not going to be 100% running at its best of course, but looks like we are still going at least

Lol, thanks but no thanks keith mate
He's still cracking on with it as we speak, he has noticed some cracks in the valve retention caps (common problem on these engines) so is having to swap them from one head to the other before he can proceed.
Not hard, just another fiddly job he was hoping not to have to do.
If it wasnt for bad luck, he would have no luck at all!!!!

I got spares if you need them Chip/Rob
Head (had a lot of skims so will need thick gasket) full of good valves
LET block
Might not be of use to you, but if you get desperate i might be able to source the parts you need

Its all more or less back together now mate, got all the bits.
Just need to pray that in the rush he hasnt missed anything thats fualty and he doesnt realised.
The last minute is no time to be building an engine from bits!

Most important thing, this IS racing, not TALK racing, shit happens, and it's being dealt with as best possible to a tight deadline. Come on guys, get it together, get some times in (in the 'A-Team' stylie )

Looking forward to seeing the car in action, and Rob seems a nice person too, would be a shame not to get a chance at running the car after all the efforts he's put into it.
Shows real dedication this, all fingers crossed it will pay off
