FAO ALL XBOX LIVE USERS (using AOL)
just got an xbox i got AOL broadband and want to go on line but......the connection on the back of my xbox is an ethernet connecter (as u probably know), and the connection on the other end of the cable coming out of my modem is USB . is it just a case of getting a cable that plugs into my modem with a ethernet connection on the other end or do i have to run my xbox through my pc to go on to live? please help

Lewis get off AOL for a start
Anyways, you need to plug the ethernet cable into the back of your PC with should have an ethernet connection as well.
Make sure you get a crossover cable rather than a patch cable, then you can start transferring games through your PC as well
Any probs just give me a shout and I'll try and pop round and sort it out for you

Right, you are going to have a massive headache doing this, you really are. What you have to do, is connect your x-box to your PC via ethernet, thus creating a local area network, then, you will have to work magic, and get Ao Hell to share the internet connection. I tried this with 2 pc's for month's and never managed it

M8, search the net for a Router that Aol Actually supports, and that Aol will talk you through over the phone, the configuration, and the setting up / troubleshooting issues you will have

Any of the netgear adsl modem/ routers work with aol, the belkin adsl modem/ router works as well and they offer freephone telephone support. actually the incompatibility is due to aol screen names.
For anyone that wants to know about the aol issues with routers this is the problem.
What you need to do is create a new screen name and pasword which must contain lowercase letters. You use this to log the modem router in to aol and then once connected you can log in with your usual screen name.

cheers guys . problem is my pc is so old it only just manages to get on to broadband! . thing is my pc doesn't have n e ethernet ports in the back only two usb ports!. and as you know AOL uses USB modem so it works with my computer. don't really want to fork out for a new pc so i'll have to look for a adsl modem router that has an ethernet port in the back AND usb port aswell! any ideas where i can get one?

never seen one of those, but as an example an adsl modem router will cost about Ł30 for wired or Ł40+ for wireless. If you go wireless some companies give you a free usb wireless receiver which would plug into the usb on your pc and then use ethernet for the xbox. alternatively its of Ł4.99 for an ethernet port.

Getting stuff to run on AOL is a doddle currently have 2 xboxes and 4 PC's off of a shitty 512k connection.
Like Johnny said just get a modem/router from PC world.
