what mk1 escort for 2k to 3k?
**posted in old school section but only 1 person replied **
as above, what sorta cond would i be lookin at, I WANT A MK1!!! Dont know a great deal about them as ive been into my mk4s
want something pretty fast (well i say fast, xr3i performance would be cool) and arse end out-y.
must be cheaper to insure than me s2, considering i dont want a limited mileage classic policy as itll get used lots.
oh and its got to be 3 door
must be road ready, so no project car ideas lol
could i get one for that price range with the wide arches and a 2 litre?
or even a relatively tidy standared one...

You'll be lucky to get a nice Mk1 to the spec you want for that money - you'd have to double that.
You do get lucky sometimes with Mk2s with a warm Pinto, lowered, Capri brakes etc. for that money though. Depends on whether you want a tidy one or just one that you can have some fun in for a few months and aren't really bothered that it's not too nice?

as Ben said really... if you want something nice then you'll probably need more money!
you'll probably be wanting one with a 2.0 pinto installed for a bit of poke as anything else will be pricey.
P.S.... they're 2 doors.. no hatchbacks were made in a mk1 unless you wanted to count the estate as a 3 door

For 2 grand you're probably looking at somethnig chucked together or very well used, though you may be lucky & find something decent!!
As said, 4 doors & Mk2's do tend to be a bit cheaper.

i just love the look of the mk1, all i want is a warm engine, something thatll keep up with my cronies in their 1.6s, and be a lil arse end happy, even if only in the wet... wheels, etc i aint too bothered about, i can put them on meself
dont wanna sell my car yet anyway, ive only had her 4 months... will wait abit longer me thinks

Testing the future
don't worry what engine it's got when you buy it. it's very cheap and easy to change it for a sierra 2.0i and 5 speed box. most important is the condition of the shell, all the mechanical bits are cheap and easy (unless it's a twincam, and it's not going to be for that money).
