Default Car tax question

Trax is cumin along pretty fast, so i thought i'd best get sorting out my track car

But the cars not actually insured, i just plan on using www.dayinsure.com and insuring it only when i need it on the road.

BUT

If i turn up at the post office to tax it with a cover note thats only valid for 1 day (it will be valid on the day i tax it BTW), will they tax the car, or will they laugh at me ?????

technically they should issue you with a tax disc as the cover note is valid.

I was hoping somebody would say that

Just a bit worried as a mate told me that there had to be atleast 14 days of insurance cover left in order for them to tax it for 6 months

BUT

My mum's tax/insurance/mot all run out on the same day, so she taxed her car, with a cover note with only 3 days cover remaining, and they taxed it no probs

just go in there and give em shit if they dont issue it - the car is insured and mot'd - there is no reason why they cannot issue you with a tax disc.

there is no minimum requirement except the car needs to be insured and mot'd.

Motor certificates issued by an insurer and downloaded directly by a policyholder are not accepted by the DVLA for vehicle licensing purposes. Therefore, you cannot purchase temporary insurance under this arrangement solely for the purposes of obtaining a road fund licence.

Tony,

The insurance certificate/cover note has to be the original and not a photocopy or printed copy. As far as im aware this is the only requirement.

Have you tried for a limited mileage quote?
You dont need any no claims for one and you dont accru any either so could be ideal for what you need. Ok some do have a minimum age limit but not all im sure.

I've tried a limited mileage quote with HIC + Adrian Flux

Even with it limited to 2000 miles a year, they still wanted the wrong side of a grand for 3rd party only

If i could use my no claims then it would be about 700ish, but then i'd be stuck not being able to insure my other car

Tax isn't normally needed to go out on track

Take look here about towing......

https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1916147

You can tow a trailer.... as long as the total weight of the trailer and load doesn't excide the gross weight of the towing car.

Would it not be cheaper to cancel the policy on the road car then use your NCD for the track car then take out a new policy on the road car ? Some companys will give you a 10% new policy discount on a standard car
