Default Remote access question.......

In an area that isn't covered by ADSL, is it possible to Remote Access a PC that has ADSL and benefit from the faster connection?? Or are you restricted by the 56k line?

I can't get my head around it!!!

You're restricted by the slowest part of the total connection - in this case, the 56k part.

CheeRS Rudey. I have never Remotely Accessed my PC, never needed to, but I imagined that you could view your home PC Desktop from your work PC if you wanted (and you had the software to do it). I then assumed that you could control your home PC and view the results at work. Make sense?

Yup, TightVNC is what you want. Doesn't work too bad over 56k either. Is there no NTL cable where you are Christian ?

you are as fast as your slowest point So your slowest point is your 56k so you are restricted to 56k download to your computer.....

It would just bottleneck and might even be slower as the ADSL PC would be receiving large amounts of data per second but then it would only be able to pass that on to your PC at 56k, thus meaning the data at the ADSL end is just piling up with nowhere to go.

There probably is Jamz, but Christian may be talking about accessing his machine from work (Virgin Wines). And guess what, a certain person who now works with us probably suggested to Virgin Wines that Virgin Net would be all they needed.

Christian, ask around at virgin wines and see if anyone remembers Tim Grantham. Would be interested to see what they say.
