Default 2WD COSWORTH TOO HOT !

Basically my header tank (alloy spec r ) gets absolutly ROASTING HOT can hardly touch and get a fair bit of pressure if tryin to open cap but is not that bad if let my fans go off, and if i have been giving it some i.e 120ish+ it seems to be spraying water from somewhere ? is defo coming from header tank i.e cap fans come on as usual and go off , and car drives and runs great but this water temp thing is puzzling and annoying the tits off me temp sits between O and R on guage when driving round it is stage 3 with pace rs500 cooler , so any ideas guys on this could it be anything to do with my rad

any help appreciated

The cap is NOT just a cap !!!

It is a pressure relief valve aswell and when it wears, it releases pressure and water TOO soon.

They are only £2.99 from ford

If you dont replace the cap you may well find that when you next undo it , it will fall apart. Mine did that. The cap came of but the bit inside with the rubber sealing ring was stuck on the tank neck LOL

Edited (thanks to Spenner):

Yes Alvyn, the Bailey header tanks come with a higher pressure cap (i.e higher pressue than the standard Ford yellow cap)......

The Bailey tanks use the Audi/VW dark blue pressure cap, important to note that these caps have a different diamater & thread size to the Ford items, so you cant just fit these dark blue VW caps to a Ford plastic header tank or to "some" Spec-R header tanks.

the cooling system is pressurised to prevent it from boiling, water boils at a much higher temperature when pressurised
Hope this helps

Pete at spec-r made some tanks with blue vw cap but generally they have standard ford yellow caps they are not interchangable they have different necks pete now generally uses radiator caps these are high pressure i think you can send your tank back and for a charge pete will change the neck. The standard ford cap is i think 1 bar and rad type neck is 1.5 bar . Out of interest the standard cap is generally fine if in good condition
