Kay..
You are completley wrong about saph owners buy one because they cant afford one of the other two. Some saph owners buy them because they really do like the looks of them me for one. The ammount of looks and smiles, waves it gets is unreal
I also could have bought a 3 door for the price i payed for mine.
I up untill 4 weeks ago i owned a scooby as well as my saph only thhing the scooby did was sit in front of the garage providing extra security for my cossie
I rarley drove it either as IMO my saph is such a better car it always makes me smile, unlike the scooby from which after the initial burst to 60 is a bore.
I would have a gtir i've been in a couple and i was very impressed they werent standard though.

I have just bought my first saph and yes I have bought it as I couldnt afford any of the other cosworth marques but I also love the lines of the saph. I can remember cutting up the cossie brochures my dad got me as a 9 year old kid and have wanted one since.
By todays standards the saphs are still very quick but I dont drive around in it thinking I am the mutts nutts, most other people do that for me! The looks I get over a scooby or skyline still amaze me. The saph has a very wide area of interest due to its high popularity over the years and the availability of parts for it. Pound for pound nothing in my lifetime to date has come close for performance.
I certainly dont think my car is the best thing since sliced bread but it puts a smile on my face and is like driving a piece of history ( in a good way!)

Amusing discussion but pretty pointless....... are there better looking cars around for the same money?... Yes, are there faster cars around for the same money?... yes but who will remember any of them in twenty years time, the cosworth, whether it be a three door a saf or an escort, is a legend ... end of.
If you own a saf cos, chipped, clean and running on 17's, it will turn heads all day long

If you've spent £15000 on your bean tin, why did you not fix the broken springs you lord
Most Sapphires are abused, thrashed and some a bit rusty. Point is that the owners don't buy them to check out their reflection when they pull up outside of the Blue Oyster bar. All they are is cheap performance, that's it.
An old Sierra with a cool engine.
If I wanted to pop in to the Blue Oyster after a hard day a Vidal Sasoons I would have bought a Fiat

sorry im not blinkered.. its all about what YOU want in a car ...
i like the fact that most twats on the road seem to underestimate the car ..
think oh look a big old sierra ... then watch em try it on .. and fail...
still everyone has their own opinion

I think kay 2 has whats known in the car world as "penis envy". He cannot accept that he has wasted £15,000 on a FWD escort that is an embarrasing max power/fast car wannabe, and instead of realizing his mistake, has taken to abusing owners of one of the finest cars Ford have ever produced.
1) calling saff's taxi's is really a bit sad, like calling rachel from S.club a minger, just because you will never be able to attain one yourself.
2) lets look at the facts here, saffs are either 2wd for silly acceleration an top speed, or 4x4 for top all weather performace and hard launching. you can fit 4 friends in with you (not a common occurance for you kay, no doubt ) and still go silly fast and most importantly, have FUN
3) ok, speed is not everything, but at the end of the day you are getting THE performance engine of the last few decades, no other engine in its class has ever been so sucsessful or highly acclaimed, why do you think they still have a HUGE following after nearly 20 years??
4) have you ever driven a decent saff??? fair enough you can probably get a car that handles better, is quicker to 60 etc, but the complete package is hard to beat for the money-
5) A well looked after saff is a very good looking car I.M.O, they are understated but smooth, and on a set of nice wheels with a 4x4 bonnet and 90 spec lights, they look very clean and aggresive. Most saffs have now got full leather recaros as well, which makes a very nice place to be
6) I am quite happy to say there are plenty of other cars that are superb and if I was rich I would have a garage full of different cars, but for the money I dont think there is a car that comes close to its all round ability and appeal
So stop talking bollox, you sound like a jelous little brat, you don't see saff drivers going round slating RST's all the time for being FWD, 1600 etc, they are exellent cars for the money as well, and there are some monsters about that I would be proud to own, such as cliffs or lewis's RST's
and if you use the arguement that a saff is a poor mans 3door/escort cos, surley the same has to be applied to the series 1/series 2 argument??
rant over, get a life and get an idea before you start making stupid blanket statements like that

What he said
Have had my saff 9 years, still puts a big grin on my face when it gets angry. Whats all this shite about "out of the box"?? Th last saffs "came out" 12 bloody years ago! What was around then to compete for the price??! They are nowhere near to being the best cars around, but everyone knows what a cossie is,and i like mine!

i dont have penis envy, as said i could easily have bought a saph or 3dr, i however can accept that there are better cars out there other than my car, that is why sometimes yes i do wonder if it worthwhile....at least im honest
i know lots of cossie owners and most of them will freely admit that by todays standards their cars would be pretty crap if not so extensively modified, however ive noticed that a lot of owners will not admit this and that was the point of this post, its just a shame that it trook 4 pages of replies for some objective replies.

i am a saph cossie owner and tbh i think people are disagreeing with you because of comments like "i know lots of cossie owners and most of them will freely admit that by todays standards their cars would be pretty crap if not so extensively modified". your comparing a car which you say is crap out of the box to todays cars which have so much more technology available and fitted to them so they should be better.

I've had a two Saffs for the last 10 years and I always wondered whether it was worth spending all that money on an old Sierra. Then when you can blow away a Supercar And use it as daily family transport, I think its money well spent!

Hello Kay2,
What the feck is wrong with you. Where is the respect most fordlovers has. You are talking like you are fecked in your oss by a saph cos owner. Come on man.
I own a sapphire cos 4wd in the netherlands. What makes this car special in his way. That's because it's practical, lot of tuning potantial and street sleeper effect which a lot of blokes in very expensive cars don't understand.
I like a lot of other cars to like scoobies and evo's and skyline's. But I have to admit that they are very expensive to tune. And a sapphire is not an ugly car.
Best regards,
