How much is your mortgage?
SLightly personal question this but I've been looking around latley about getting my own place. 25 now and I really should move out of my parents place but london is soooo costly!
First off, I get away with murder at home and the folks don't mind me living there so its not urgent I move out!
The cheapest place in the current postcode where I live is a 2 bed flat for £180k and I'm only on £20k!
Renting is a total no-no for me. Its like throwing money away.
I'm just curious as to house prices around the country as I will defo consider relocation if I can afford it

So far it seems that the only option I have is to stay at home till my mum and dad die.
Seems really harsh but there place is work £300k. Half for me and my sis would do nicely! Shame they've got another 20 years left I reckon!

Mine is £198 a month but I bought the place 10 years ago before prices went nuts up here and put down a decent deposit
Wouldn't like to be a first time buyer now mind
A mate of mine started investing in property about 13 years ago - he must have had a crystal ball back then - he has about 18 properties now - all in/around Edinburgh!!

Post code here is SE4.
Seems that 180k is the going rate for all the cheapest places in southeast london.
I'm praying for a price crash but I cant see that happening.
The only other thing I can think of is getting myself down on the council waiting list - but I don't fancy waiting 10 years to be offered somewhere in a highrise block!

Coventry £ bed house, garage, double bay, etc etc £120 for an average are.
Try Northern Rock for a start, give most peeps a mortgage, i tried Nationwide, offered my £165K and service and offers seemed good, but i am in a reasonably good position, cash in the bank and me and the misses on ok wages

SimonT, The best way to get people to lend you more than they normally would is with a big deposit - they know they can get their money back by taking the house off you if it goes tit's up then.
It doesn't have to be all of the difference between what they are saying they will lend now, and the price of the house, but just enough to cover all of the fee's etc. to take the house off of you.
Make any sense?

I have lived in London, Boston Lincolnshire, Peterborough, London again, Manchester and now in Hale, which is Cheshire.
Would go back to London in a second. Its all well and good to live in a cheap area but the reason that the houses are cheap is due to the fact that NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE THERE!!!!!!!

House prices r stupid in England. have increased dramatically over here this last few years too & people seem to be happy enough to pay the asking price or a lot more. if only selling motors was like that

Also bear in mind that if you managed to scrape together a decent deposit and get a lender to offer you a mortgage at say 7X your salary then once you're in the place it'll take years before the payments get easier what with the low inflation environment we have in the UK economy these days and it's not as if interest rates can drop by much to ease the burden either is it !?!
