That sucks big time, i guess you just have to live with it as harsh as it seems.
I've had mine on my car like this for 3 years and never been pulled for em, been through recognition cameras and not been pulled so i guess they're still readable. Have copper follow me all the time around town but they dont even bat an eyelid.
I know if i get pulled i'll take the fine as it is still breaking the law but hey ho, got legal ones in the car just in case

Ginge - i got plenty of addresses i can use, but im hoping it wont come to that.
Hardeep - i may sell the plate soon as i have seen another i like
Tried to put the plate on last night and it wont fit as the towing eye gets in the way so i have stuck the plate in my front windscreen

They WILL NOT put your car on a Q .. they simply wont do it there is no legal need to.
What they CAN do though is revoke your D16 VRS, so you lose all rights to it and simply give you any old "D" plate to put on your car ... simple, thats it, so basically you run the risk of losing a Ł250 plate (cos the DVLA will simply put it back up for sale )

What annoys me is all these posh cars with the plates changed, seen a Bentley with a totally illegal plate different font and no spaces at all, copper behind him, did sod all but later the same night pulled my mates cossie for having his with different spacing

One rule for one, one rule for the rest "Lil me"
Ran, if it was me, just for fun, id get out the car screaming Raccccciiiiiiiiiist for pulling you, just for fun like (say the A as "ah" rather than "ay" and the Is as "ee" rather than "eh" for full effect )
Esp if both was wearing Turbans, as then theyd be REALLY spun out
And then then you can call them your Caramel Skinned Brother, like Sagid does at work

So basically if you have your reg plates printed in small letters or in any other way illegal they can actually take your reg plates away and put it on q reg. I thought q was for only stolen, imported or cars that had been written off.

Been pulled twice for mine (R1 THB - but had a lower case "L" instead of the "1") I've resorted to sticking with the legal plates now for fear of having it taken off me. Got a producer first time, and a 14 day rectification notice second time, which also did me for my tints

From the MOT testers guide.
Reasons for failure.
1. A registration plate:
a. missing or incorrect
b. so insecure that it is likely to fall off
c. letter or figure missing or incomplete
d. faded, dirty, deteriorated or obscured, (for example by a towbar so that it is likely to be misread or is not easily legible by a person standing approximately 20 metres to the front/rear of the vehicle)
2. A registration plate with:
a. letters and figures obviously incorrectly spaced
b. letter or figure not correctly formed or likely to be misread
c. a letter or figure which is obviously not of equal width along its entire length
d. any feature on a number plate that has the effect of changing the appearance or legibility of any of the characters, so that the true identity of the vehicle is less easily identified.
