On the way home from work I picked up my bonnet pins from burtons to fix the bonnet of the XR2 (hinge has come off so its only the bonnet catch and one hinge holding the bonnet on
can't weild it back cust it will fook the paint work, can't get a new hinge cus it tha hinge is part of the bonnet, and don't really wanna get a new bonnet cus the colour wont match
fussy aint I.)
I dont trust myself with a drill to put holes in my bonnet
so I thought I might just pay a pro to do it.
So on the way back home after picking up my bonnet pins I stopped off at the local body shop. Was talking to the owner, showd him the pins and said, how much to fit them to that (pointing at my fezzer).
"I could fit it, but its an MOT failure."
"You sure?" I said
"Yeah go check with the MOT station just over there."
So I went, asked the garage dude and he said.
"So long as the bonnet is secure and you can remove it for access safely it will pass the mot."
So I went back to the body shop and said to the guy.
"No thats fine should be ok to fit them and it will pass the MOT."
"Ahh thats ok then, I can do it, will cost you £60."
£60 quid??? To fit bonnet pins? What a monkey

I paid to have mine done. I kept looking at the nasty sharp drill bit and my shiny bonnet and just bottled it. I only paid £25 as the bodyshop man was a mate of my Dad's
£60 would sound about right. Hour's labour and treating the areas.

eh?they take about 5 mins to fit,do it your bloody self! lift the bonnet, measure on the front panel where you want them, drill that and put the pins in,but have the pins wound down on the thread so the bonnet just about shuts, put a blob of greas on each pin, close bonnet so it touches pins, theres your marks, drill, rivet, done!

its really easy to do, use a centre punch too but be carefull and the drill wount slip
or just weld the bonnet catch as bonnet pins are a headache when ya open the bonnet

I am not paying £60 for someone to drill four holes in a car and screw a bolt in.
I get paid weekly and this week I have already spent £150 on the car (service bits and bobs, new number plates a flocked dash...) so dont have £60 to spend on bonnet pins this week but will by friday. but £60 to drill a bunch of holes is stupid
Where as getting custom one off bits made up IS worth 300-400 pounds.
However by the time carbon bits are made and ready for dilivery I could quite easily have £300-£400.
And the beauty of it all being a 200-300 pound car track toy if I do crash it on the track I just buy another shell and swap it all over.
And, as the car is only small anyway, all I dont need big BHP to go reasonably fast. A standard 2.0 Zetec with a £200 engine management system will easily see it into the mid 6 seconds 0-60. Not a high top speed granted, but it will be perfect for track days.
