Default bank errors

i banked a cheque for 6.6k this week but ive just noticed the bank have credited my account with 66k!!

obviously im not going to spend it but im not telling them about it, was just going to let them find their mistake and reap the interest on the extra 60k that aint mine

different bank once credited me with £150 for no reason and i spent that without knowing about it, when they wrote to me asking for it back i told them to piss off and that id pay it back at £5 a month like it or lump it, they accepted

where do i stand?

yep, stash it away in a fat interest account Matt.. worst they can do is ask for it back, and you can give it back nice and slowly...
Not sure how it stands technically, truth is they are likely to want it back i'd guess, but they can't just take it back without your permission

Draw it out!

Law states that if it is their mistake then its their fault! If you spend the money no action will be taken, and in rare cases if they do take action, offer to pay 10 a month. Think of it as a 100% intrest free loan!!!!

You're talking shit!

If you notice the mistake and spend the money then the law says it is theft and you can be prosecuted.

If you unwittingly spend money credited by mistake you have a case, but it would be hard to convince someone you unwittingly spent 60k!!!

Agreed with Derek!

You have realised the money is rightfully not yours, but spent it anyway, which is an offence under the Theft Act.

Still would only offer to pay it back at a low rate...

Mum works at Bank, reap interest in another account if at all possible (same bank) if asked for it back - you have to give it back, as legally its not yours and never has or will be

dont be a fool and spend it, u will end up in massive debt

stick it in a mates accont and claim the interest !!!!!

drag ya feet and do give it back, id not worry as whats the worst they can do !!!!

66k is a worth 3 months inside imo

think of it as contract work, where else ya gonna earn 66k in 3 months unless ya mike rainbirds accountant

may im too dodgy but if that ever happened to me i would have withdrew it and then lost it on the way home

Correct, if they make a mistake its exactly that and they can claim it back whenever they like. Do what you said and leave it there to earn a bit of interest and see what happens.

this is very true, but they will probably offer you the interest on the amount, which cant be too bad i spose, just dont spend it for gods sake, they usually do prosecute as the man said, just dont tell them about the mistake too soon remember the longer it take for them to sort it,the more intrest you will have

Balls. Around the world you could have gone!

I once got two payments of £3400 from my umbrella company once. They never realised, so I kept schtum. Company went bankrupt a month after and I was never asked for the money back... maybe the fall of their company was down to their accounts department

64k mate thats gona take most people 4 years to earn, remember thats after tax sum and most people claim there 50k wage but only get 38k of it ( example not a calculation btw)

no matter what they do i cant loose, if they nicked me ill serve a few months in a open prison, thats 6 months for 64k, im sure porkie dont even get that ,

now if they dont and they FORCE you to pay it back you take a job at mcdonalds as a fries flipper for 2 days a week and do that untill ya go to court and get made to pay it back at 30 quid a month, after 6 years ya wont have to pay anymore and so the job is done

think of it as business, why work hard if ya can get money the easy way

easy money is the nicest to spend too

dave you telling me that 66k aitn worth 3 months, why the fook do people rob banks or even do fraud

3 to 6 months in a open prison or earn peanuts selling pills with the risk of 2 years +

ive got a few friends and a my mates old man was the one who told me that made me feel that way, he done 3 years at first for robbery and then another 8 years, the money he was after wasnt mentioned but not alot as a few was involved and he was a safe man , he told me if ya gonna do a crime make it worth while, selling drugs aint got the same money involed now as kids of 14 sell gear now and they are untouchable

hence why the big boys like the nice peeps who own canvas/cross/fabrics/bar fink dont do banks anymore but do other things

also cause its alot harder than back in the day

ps: there nice people but dont get on the wrong side of em as they do bite

after the moneys all been spent ur still left as a ex con who cant get a job cos the only work u can get is flippin burgers for £2 an hr and ur twice the age of ur boss.

Had similar thing happening to my bonds that suddenly was worth 100 times more. Turned out it was a computer error so they discovered after a day but yours seems to be a man made error so probably takes them a while to discover.
