Default Question for any MOT testers on here ??

If I were to fit an old V8 engine to a modern car, how would the emissions test work?
Is it based on the year of the engine or the year of the car?

Thats right - its the older of the two. If the car was 'first used' (this efffectively means registered) after August 1992 and it was fitted with a CAT then it will need the advanced emisions test.

If either the car or the engine is pre this date then you will be okay but it is your responsibility to produce documentary evidence to prove this.

You will hear lots of different opinions but this was the reply I got when I enquired.

It'd be down to him to prove it, not to the tester to beleive him.

V8 NOT for my cossie as the engine is Mint
My Cossie is for sale to fund house move and after I've settled in I fancy something completely different. Either a Mazda MX5 with a Rover V8

http://freespace.virgin.net/bob.carter/Mazda_mx5_V8.htm

Would obviously lie about engine numbers to conceal the Range Rover 4.6 block

Or a BMW 3 series coupe with Chevy/Ford V8.

Had V8's in the past and the YB engine kind of sucks in comparison
