You can put saff 4x4 brakes on escorts iirc.

Be a good mod to do for hardly any money.

One option would be to use 2wd Cosworth discs, keeping your standard S2 calipers. For this you only need to buy some brackets to mount the caliper further out from the hub (available from Mike Rainbird mike@rjpipe.demon.co.uk ) and a pair of 2wd Discs which can be had for around £60ish from somewhere like Rally Design, and a set of new S2 brake pads and your pretty much there.

This is what I did

1st off Mintex 1144's and Black diamond drilled/grooved discs
Cost about 150
2nd Removed ABS cost is from pennies up to 150 depending on what you do and how you do it
3rd I got hold of some cossie 4pots of a 2wd saff/3dr and put them on.
They dont fit behind S2 rims tho so this may hinder you

I don't think its the issue of how much the wheels are worth ........ more the issue of safety

Although I wouldn't take grinder to any calipers either

Theres loads and loads of excess in the S2 wheels I know a few people who have done it- have a close look at one and you'll see.

But grinding the calipers- no chance.

The calipers have such force on them when you applu the brakes that I wouldn't want to weaken it- look at wilwoods they flex because they're thin

Were the discs for an S2 or for a 2wd cossie?
Who can i get to remove abs?
And what's wrong with standard calipers?

Cheers

Kev

The original blk diamond stuff was just standard Escort stuff.
To be fair I was more than pleased with that set up just started to show signs of age- its difficult to explain but I drive everywhere flat out as fast as possible and the ammount of stops they did from 140 meant they had a hard life hence the continuing upgrades.

I wouldn't remove the ABS untill you need your box doing- just easier to do it at the same time. Its a DIY job to be honest mate

Nowt really wrong with s2 calipers.

If companies like SCC are now doing it as a conversion then get them to do it.
In my opinion I cant see how it would cost more than 150 as its a relativly simple thing to do- but in fairness it might be more as it is a well respected garage and they do need to earn a living.
It all comes down to how much you can/are prepared to do your self and how confident you are.

yeh it gets rid of the spongey feeling and gives you a firm peddle that you will know works.
I know that sounded a bit patronsing... but seriously... people are always on about thrashing there cars and stuff... but with me its a bit different.. lol

I need a new clutch and know you need to remove abs or somethin like that cos it's in the way. Is it simple enough to tell the garage not to put it back on??

And cheers for info Shings
