Metro handled better, as the engine was in the right place, but couldnt compete on power with the later quatros.
Personally i would say that the metro was the better car, as i beleive it enjoyed more success and i think its a more elegant design (from an enginering point of view not from the looks of it!)

The lancia Delta was a Group A car, not B.
The only Group B Lancia's were the S4 and the 037 rallye...
The quatro is an animal...how do I know? I've driven one!!!
Handling is SHITE compared to a modern car but power is awesome and the delivery is insane! You have to be very very quick or you'll miss every gear as the revs rise so quickly when it starts boosting!!!

Re: The RS200, it never really achieved anything and really wasnt all that special compared to what it was up against, im not taking anything away from it, it was a fantastic car, but it wasnt head and shoulders better than anything else in group B like people try and make out, in fact it was the least succesful of all group b cars (although mainly cause ford were late to jump on the bandwagon)

Lancia didn't call it Delta and it doesn't share any components with them either....
Either wa˙: fucking ugly but fucking fast at the same time and I love the compressor/turbo combo!

Well if Walkers advertises it as a Delta then it must be one
It's not what I've read but that doesn't mean anything either so let's go with the majority and call it a Delta then

The other year David Sutton at Daventry Northants was rebuilding the Pikes Peak Audi, and was just sourcing the parts.
All the group B cars were special shame they had to end.

6R4 was co-developed with Williams GPE
Quatro is classic Power over design
RS200 by all acounts could have been amazing if Grp B hadnt been scrapped. Like the Escos in later years. Ford got it basically right, but couldnt develop it fast enough. And when it finally got it right it was too late.
T16 is the one Id go for though

IMO the metro was easily the better car, the audi has so much weight over the front wheels it was the worst handling of all the groupb cars, but the metro and rs200 came to late to do anything, leaving the t16 as the best of the bunch.
It's debatable what would have been the best had it continued but had the metro gained a twin turbo set up (as used in the xj 220) then it would have had the power and the handling, you also have to take into account the team budgets, so the metro is pretty darn good seeing as it was made with what probably amounted to the money in the swear jar.

ermm..rallycross RS200's and the pikes peak RS200? Not saying they're better but they have been well modified and had international motorsport success

I will soon be getting a ride in a rallycross rs200, when I heard the stats I was amazed, obviously the technology wasn't as good in the group B days as it was in the later years, but the rs200 was still a fooking quick car back then
Out of teh group B cars though my favourite is by far the Audi, The norweigan owned one is just awesome and its great to see one being used properly still not stuck in a museum
Great Audi pics by the way, new desktop pic

If I could choose I think I would go for the lancia 037 rallye
I love the way it looks and it's rwd wich makes it even better!
I also love the first widebody Lancer turbo's! Also RWD
From the 4x4's it would have to be the DELTA ( ) S4

I am in the Metro camp. Awesome car and you can still buy a new one today. Colin McRae has got one (or he did have) and I have seen him in that and fuck me it was awesome.
As others have said the Quattro was a shit design that they just turned the boost up on. Which is why it fits in on this board I guess as where have we heard that before
I agree that the Audi is an awesome site and no one can argue that they fooookin fly, but from an engienering, handleing and future development point of view the metro had it for me.
I mean it was the only 6 cylinder Group B car and imagine if they had bunged a couple of turbo's on it if group B had continued Then it would have been the most powerful by miles and it would have handled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, but going N/A was very bad decision. And at the point of development they achieved Audi was quicker.
The only thing I don't like about Metro is that it's N/A. N/A engines have this huuge turbo-lag up to the limiter hehe

But the Audi had probably twice as much development as any of the Group B cars and lets be honest it was only the last ones that really rocked.
I reckon a twin turbo 6R4 would have destroyed the Audi.
