you can use a socket to install the valve stem seals, i think it's about 7mm and 8mm, but check that it's a good fit before using it. you need a deep one as well.

removing them is a pig. there are special pliers available from tool shops, but they're not very successful. you could always se a small screwdriver to split the metal surround and peel it off, but be careful not to damage the guide or the head.

think it would be easier to give it to a shop to do.

by the time you buy all the tools it won't be much more and they know what there doing.

like Nick says - use a sharp screwdriver to cut through the side of the thin metal shell of the old seals. Once split, the seal will easily come away from the guide.
They are otherwise very tight when they have been on for a while, and all but impossible to pull off.
To install new ones, use a deep socket of a suitable size to be a good fit onto the top of the seal body, put a spot of grease inside the seal and tap it gently onto the guide.

cossiecrew - concentrate on getting them off... putting new ones back on is a piece of piss, they just push on with a suitably sized "tube" to push them on with..
