whats the most likely coz of a plane going wrong or down or worse
the last jet we let go had flown at least 10 times before the tankies(work in the fuel tanks!) realised they were missing a mat (foam mat 4ft by 2ft!), it had been left in the tank and when we searched for it we found crisp packets, couple of screws etc in there!!!!BLOODY CIVVIES
most likely cause would be FOD (Foreign Object Damage),loose articles that can get caught in things like flying controls or go down the engine intakes and cause serious damage,BUT flying is still by far the safest way to travel!
I assume you arrived OK?!
I was absolutely terrified of it after my first flight in 1996. Got caught in lots of air pockets in cloud over Bournemouth which put me off as I dont like heights anyway. Took many trips up to Heathrow on my own and paid stupid amounts of parking so I could get the feel for the airport. I knew I wanted to fly but needed to feel comfortable again.
In 2001 I met my aussie girlfriend and she talked me through buying my ticket etc and my parents dropped me at Heathrow in June of that year. I walked straight on the plane and loved every minute of it. I have now flown to oz 5 times, internally in oz many many times and had some shocking flights internally but none bother me anymore.
All I can say is I am SO SO glad I got a plane in June 2001 (before 9/11) and that I wasnt 50 by the time I summoned up the courage. It is normal to get nervous as well as it is not the way man was designed to travel (learnt that from Airport).
