Thought it was just the grill that required some trimming work on the S1?

Contact GRS man himself for the lowdown.

I'm sure Graham said that no cutting should be required

You just have to extend the cut out for the fan that is already there.

the above plus a very small shave off the back of the plastic gill, if any at all , this is to allow for the fan.

I got one in mine, speak to Gadget on how he fitted it

Oh and make sure you have an ally rad cos the water temp will go up cos of the intercooler blocking air flow to the rad.

Not that you ever go fast enough in your car to make it hot

Had to shave a tiny little bit off the inside of my grill but you can't even notice it

If he isn't going to give us a reasoned technical explaination. Don't make a comment at all! It's unfair to try and put people off buying something without justifying it. If I said "Wen't to SCC, won't be coming back, nuff said" I think you'd be pretty annoyed. (If it turned out the reason I wouldn't be coming back was because you didn't put suger in my tea!!)

TBH It gets rights on my nerves when people moan that they have fitted an intercooler with about 10 times the size which covers the front of the car and expect it to work better than factory! It will show up if you have a poor quality water system in the car. The quality of the GRS Coolers are second to none.

Anyway Rant over.

Jon,
Harvey Gibbs buys my intercoolers and doesn't have a problem, I’m sending him another order out this week.

I’ve just had an order from Hong Kong, and Taiwan, with big inquires from Philippians, Canada and the USA, so I must be doing something right.

At the end of the day SCC will NEVER like my intercoolers full stop.

Jon and Graham,

Just because I work at SCC, doesn't mean I have to have the same view as Rob!

If I had an RS Turbo, it's be the intercooler I'd be using!

The reason Rob doesn't use them happened long before I started working here. I think the intercoolers have proved themselves many times over.

I'll answer this question for Rob as it was me and Pat who fitted it when i worked there......

1. We were told no cutting was envolved...... not true.

2. We fitted intercooler the pipes were at the wrong angle.

3. The car had a perfectly good radiator but it over heated even using water wetter and no thermostat even with the heater on.

The cooler worked verywell at keeping ACTs down but due to the fact that the car overheated ALL the time it was removed 24hrs later (fitted on friday night, removed saturday afternoon). The S1 was owned by Pat @ SCC and he was not impressed at all with the product due to the over heating problem........ this all happened nearly 3 years ago and i know there have been some improvements with design etc etc....... I will say 1 thing tho i've never seen any problems with the GRS coolers on the S2 RS Turbo.

It's obious it's going to increase the work on the cooling as with any performance mod, there is always a downside. With 2 x 10" Fans and a proper radiator everything runs fine.

Mine and many many other customers cars don't overheat, so there much be a reason specific to your install/car. How many fans where you using?

I have 2 x 10" fans inbetween the rad and intercooler. (Mine is the very first one which is bigger than the current ones) So I did have to cut a little from the inside of my bonnet and bonnet catch but that was changed years ago so no cutting required.

The biggest complain was the severe lack of 1. fitting instructions and 2. the fact that when selling a product that "may" cause your car to run hotter you SHOULD be informed of this..... if someone sold me a product that caused problems with my car and even damage to the engine i'd be looking for some sort of compensation. Cover ya back at the end of the day.... as in the case with Pace Products they say that their 65mm rads are for race/track use only ..... use on the road at your own risk....
Give people the whole picture 1st time round not after fitting recommending things imo.
Remember this are retail products so treat everyone like an idiot and tell them everything they need to know, don't leave anything to be guessed as it could come back and bite you in the ass with an expensive court case.

I agree with 2 fans they work much better, but why was this not recommended when purchasing???

Like i said this was nearly 2 years ago so past history...... you asked a Q i answered end of story...

steve fair does. I agree on the Mk1 there was a lack of everything. I had to make brackets to fit mine but this was fed back to graham and he sorted it all. Also on his site it does mention about the possible increase in water temp.

Credit where credits due,
DanS asked us to fit his new intercooler and it did go in rather nicely, and i beleive his temps are ok,

They have obviously come a long way in the last few years but unfortunatly 2 years ago we did have a problem that caused us to rethink selling the GRS items

Rob, thank you for your comments.

RichardPon, thanks for your support.

Steve, I'm always open to constructive criticism, when you told me to warn potential customers about the possibility of higher water temps this was then added in red on every invoice that goes out. I’ve had a lot of advice and ideas to improve my products from customers, which I’ve taken on board and implemented to my products, I’m always a believer that if you don’t continuously strive to improve products then customer's will look else where. As a result there are over 550 intercooler/radiators on customers cars all around the world, not bad for someone working in his garage on a part time level.

Since nobody has really answered the question itself, I wen't out to the parking lot for some pictures:

Basicly the original cut has been extended and the panel bent a little to clear the fans. If one fan only is to be fitted, the grille attachement locations don't need to be messed with. However, with two fans, they need to go.

Somebody mentioned the pipe being at a wrong angle. There you can see how the outlet is pressing the water pipe. I have mentioned this to Graham some time ago, so I assume this has been corrected. Also notice the Kenlowe adjustable thermostat which is really needed, unless one wan't to use the engine management to control the fans (of course not with the KE-jet). Rewireing the fans also makes it possible to leave them running after shutting the car.

This shows how much cutting is needed with the grille. This will not show from the front in any way.
