Default FAO Plumbers, few questions

ok, some of you know i hate my current job doing cad

im thinking about becoming a plumber

i dont have any experiance in the job

what qualifications are needed?

ive got a ONC in electrical engineering, a city and guilds 214 in maintenance, NVQ level 3....


any info on strating up will be much appreciated, ie try and get in with british gas, or a smaller firm etc

also what is the starting pay like, as i cant afford to go on apprentice wages as the mortgage etc

from what you have said i cant see how you dont think you can start from the bottom rung with no experiance of plumbing at all?

Starting pay for an appertice plumber is about Ł100

bugger, is that Ł100 a week, or Ł100 a month...

ok, i guess i do need to start at the bottom, but what sort of qualifications do you need???

CORGI, and what else, or is it just learn from experiance?

i was thinking abt this also might go back to college to do it but theres too many bills to pay at the mo!

You will have to start off and get level 2,3,4,5 NVQ Plumbing and mechanical services.
Then your basic gas safty course's
The the CORGI/ACOPS qualifications
Then 5 years later you will be fully qualified ON PAPER, but going out and doing the job takes a few more years of learning
Then you can go for the "Master Craftsman" which is a very high level of skill, hence why i have it

All in all, 10 years and you should just about know what your doing
