Default Escort GTi tuning

Hi guys,

I know it's not exactly a fast ford but does anyone know of any tuning mods that work well with the escort GTi's?? ie, cams and filters, chips etc!! at the mo it's completely standard enginewise bar a custom made powerflow exhaust that has been made for it today

Cheers for any advise peeps!!

Chuck a 2.0 Silver top in there ... Have the head sorted and some trickery and it may push 150bhp for cheaper than most on here pay for brake pads.

Or for £450 you can get a full RS2K conversion kit .. 150bhp to start .. Again cheaper than most on here pay for brake discs.

Bodies or turbo

Other than that, dont bother as the results will be so small you will hardly notice

Mines as stock as a stock rock shop

Well a filter and zorst dont count do they

Best to spend the money elsewere and fit 280mm brakes and a disc beam and mod the Suspension and that way it will be fast because you can brake later and harder and go round corners far better

Besides, if you do intend to up the bhp you will have to do the above anyway cos the poxy Rich Tea biscuit size front discs and silly drums wont cope with anything past stock

Just get a k&n induction kit with a good cold air feed and a heat shield if need be, and also the magnex exhausts sound pretty good, whilst not being stupidly loud or boomy on the motorway.

Dont expect it to be faster though, but it will sound alot lot better

yeah good man, sorting out suspension is a good move especially coilovers, not only will it handle great but it will look much better

Not going to FF, ive not owned a Ford for about 2 years now, not because i dont like them but because i wanted a change, the dark side is very good

Went 2-3 years to FF, was a great day though

Default scort

got a very clean 97 5-door GTi for a ridiculous price of £400 from a guy about to take a break at her majesties pleasure lol, milage is nearly 100k, but got previous owners reciepts for rebuild at 92k,its got a full stainless system, Apex suspension with gas shocks, strut brace, bigger leads and injectors, power boost valve (fairly pointless IMO), induction kit, and possibly chipped, but after having a 1 owner minter 18 months ago which was standard,i wouldnt say so,as the difference in performance is fairly minimal. the big difference is the handling, its feels a lot flatter and composed when you point it round a roundabout or a quick left right, mine is dropped 40mm at the back, and 30mm at the font, which is spot on,as a local to my area has an RS dropped 50 or 60 all round, and mine holds the power through corners much better(until the straights lol). plans for the car are leaning towards a conversion,as the cost to strain the reliable old 1800's performance far outways the final product.if i cant find a clean RS lump,Will probs head for a mondeo lump, and work to 150bhp from there. RS7's wrapped in Pirelli's,and a nice front splitter,n she be done for "The Ring"! and i agree with the guys befoe me, screw the sardine can that is the saxo/106,the Scort's a far nicer car to look at!!!

I have always been advised to never put coilovers on a road car as they are no good for our roads only track use instead buy a good fast road suspension kit.

As for modding your Gti to get good power out of it, it will cost alot as I found out with my old Si

I managed to get about 150bhp out of my old 115bhp zetec but it cost me a fortune

Here is the link of what I had done and set up by MSD https://passionford.com/forum/genera...ny-at-msd.html

And here is another link that the current owner (bought Si off the guy I sold it to) put up with my rolling road graphs https://passionford.com/forum/genera...-find-out.html

Also for brake upgrades I found that a brilliant modification with bigger front brakes

285mm wilwood 4 pot conversion here is my guide for that http://www.linktobusiness.co.uk/foru...039bf95ae74343

St170 focus rear discs to replace drums on escort here is my other guide if your car has abs http://www.linktobusiness.co.uk/foru...039bf95ae74343
