steve my mates driver is massive(the 440) and is light as fook...and the sweet spot is massive mate. Go hit some, you'd be suprised.
Phil yes hes a jammy git! Royal troon would be smart!
Dave, getting down the 20 HC is quite easy, and ya think '' this time next year ill be off 10''...then 4 yrs later ya off 15 Gets fookin hard.
Was shooting regular 11's and 12's 2 yrs ago, but in last 2 year i have played about 40 times if that starting to get regular again now am not so busy..i hope to be off ten in 2 yrs

Play off 12, been as low as 10, but not played at all this year though
Currently using Mizuno MX-17 irons, great clubs, solid feel, good balance, suit most golfers id say.
Using a Callaway hawkeye VFT driver, pretty old, and tatty, but a great club none the less.
full set of cleveland wedges, and a 64 degree gun metal lob wedge (also by cleveland)
Love a good game of golf, just far too busy to get right into it again really
Also, when we're on the subject of courses.. I live about.. 8 miles from royal troon, played it twice, and played St Andrews old course just the once, Excellent

Currently playing of 6 but on my way down. I play with a Mizuno TP22 blade. Id say you have to be playing of single figures to be playing with any blade. I use to teach when i was 18, and when i had more time to play and just getting someone to use a "cavity back" iron would improve somes game by 3-4 shots as they allow for that of centre hit now and again and you get away with it.
Ive probably had 20 different drivers and woods over the years but am using the cobra ssz440 range at moment as they go miles and let you of the hook with the odd wayward swing
Maybe a summer golf bash is in order

Most people dont live Daves way Jase Best courses are up here anyways
I think the cobra ssz440 you mention is what Ray has! Very forgiving as ya say! I may upgrade once ove sorted the irons.
I too thought that i wouldnt get blades until i was under 10, but as i say, they felt nice. Maybe ill stick with cavity backs tho, as its a lot of money to play with twice and throw in the bin
Keep looking at the callaway X18's. Gonna pop to direct and have a swing with some!

I play in the summer when its a nice day.... so wouldnt call myself a serious golfer, more a social one lol. Got a set of Callaway clubs though and a mish mash of woods i inherited from my old man.
When we were in NY last year he bagged a Big Bertha for Ł55 which im told is a proper bargain!! My old man CAN belt that fooker 350 yds in a straight line as well! Me, i cant hit fook all with woods or driver, not a fookin thing

lol yeah im with you, im lucky if i can hit a ball 200yds, no matter what club i use
Theres something very satisfying about the 'ping' you get off a ball when you hit it just in the sweet spot.... not that i'd know
My old man takes his golf quite seriously though, pisses my mum off

I play off 10 at the moment, was a 9 handicapper until a few months ago but I've been struggling with my game for a while.
I play at Five Lakes in Essex.
My clubs are as follows:
Driver - Titleist 975 LFE 9.5 with graphalloy blue stiff shaft
Woods - Callaway Steelhead 3 and 5 woods, regular steel shafts
Irons - Taylormade Firesole 3 - PW, regular steel shafts
Wedges - Taylormade Tour wedges 50 and 58 degrees
Putter - Titleist Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless
My advice to you would be to not go for any blades as you're not a good enough player to use them and they won't help your game. My brother plays off 6 and he still doesn't use blades, in fact there's a fair number of tour pros these days that use cavity backs rather than blades.
Callaway make good irons for the improving player, ugly but effective!
The second hand market is full of golf clubs, ebay and golfbidder.com are both worth looking at.

If you are looking at spending Ł300 to Ł400 on a set of clubs then why not get some made specifically for you.
I had my clubs adjusted to suit my style a couple of years ago and the guy who did it offered to make me some clubs and the price was somthing like Ł250 for a set of irons and then about Ł70 for each wood. When I next upgrade I will probably go down that route.
This is the guy I used, not local to you I know but it maight give you some ideas.

Is Jobbo's first name Paul?
As I know a jobbo who's called Paul, he used to have a lovely black S2, he then got an Escort Cosworth. I don't know what he drives now as I haven't seen him in years but he used to work in golf too!
I just wondered if it was the same guy?!
