i have a "hearts, diamonds, hash" ecu on my D plate, is this the right one for the age of the car?

im trying to buy another one (mines dead) and i dont know whether to go with colours or by these markings

im very new to this ecu stuff so any help really appreciated!

Yeah they are all compatible. The best one is an S1 ECU, Blue Red Blue, or Blue White Blue, something like that

Hearts & Diamonds is a late ECU for reference (89 on).

Make sure u have a knock sensor - green plug on right of inlet manifold - if u are going to run hearts diamonds. If you do have this sensor - then ANY ecu will work

This car has no knock sensor and thus requires a non knock enabled Ecu.

I can never remember what colour does what to be honest, so if anyone else can help this chap out with a definitive list?

Blue-Red-Blue - S1 none knock sensor
Blue-Red-White S2 None knock sensor (less agressive ignition curve than S1)
Blue-Red-Black S2 Knock sensor
Hearts & Diamonds -S2 90 Spec Knock sensor
