I think Rods car is an awesome achievement and i dont get bored of reading about it, and if i did i could just scroll past it.

The one thing that is far more boring than Rod going on about it, is people going on about him going on about it.

and possibly the one thing more boring than people going on about him going on about it is me going on about people going on about Rod going on about it, so i'll quit now while im behind

EXACTLY

But on the other hand this is a Car Forum and I do think the entire point of its existence is to discuss cars and stuff.... and if we all agreed it would be pretty boring!

A WELL MAINTAINED 500HP GTR IS AS RELIABLE AS A 330 STG3 COSSY.
Turn to the darkside!
Good post I love both as well, BUT I wouldn't consider a Cossy for a road car.. Skylines are superior in everyway and are a very involving and fun car despite their size.

R33s are ugly busses . Give me an R32GTR any day - much prettier and more in line with my idea of what a car is about. An R33 is to Skylines what a 260z was compared to the 240 .

In fact Steve, you're building my ultimate Skyline (just get rid of that F&F rear wing ;cry: ), shame the owner is a goon .

Ive not got that spoiler anymore

Ive got a R34GTR one to go on it (as well as the Nismo rear lip one)

To be honest id prefer a proper drag one like this-

But frankly I dont know where you get them from

You obviously have never seen ANY of the of the GTR time attack cars in Japan, or even RK Tunings R32 in its new spec then if you think it makes the car look less "serious" or whatever...

But it has gone anyhow...

Well ive got a R34GTR std spoiler on there now plus the Nimso rear lip you see on them pics you just posted mike.

My point was tho that the other spoiler wasnt out of place or chav, for example, a few pics from FuJi Time Attack a few weeks ago, the top tuner track cars in japan...

Yes, but have you seem some of the Japanese vans - that doesn't make it right .

I'm loving the white R34 in the top picture (despite the hilarious rear wing ) and am imagining it with gold centred BBS wheels . The black one behind it at that spoiler .

Mike, these are serious track cars, hence why they have no body mods barring front and rear end aerodynamic stuff, you ever heard of a thing called DOWNFORCE

And your still banging on about Gold wheels, so you cant give any style tips

So you're telling me that these have all been wind tunnel tested and proven to provide down-force or are they (more likely) cosmetic monstrosities pervaded by the tuning companies as aerodynamic aids (although they have no idea by how much ). I'm sure some of the DO work, but I bet even the ones that do, you couldn't say by exactly how much and what they did to the downforce .

Steve, most of those spoilers in your pics dont look at all good IMO...

The best I've seen is the discrete one that you posted above - but even on that the spoiler END PLATES are wrong Too many "square" edges that make it look home made.........

I bit better with rounded corners?????:

Steve,
I don't doubt that some of them do what they're supposed to do, but I am a sceptic regarding almost every aspect of tuning, and don't tend to believe things just because a) Everyone has them, b) They look good c) They cost shit loads of money . If you understood anything about aerodynamics, you would understand my scepticism, as the height, width, angle and design is absolutely crucial (and different from car to car ) to get a working wing. Bolting on an identical wing from a GT car that probably HAS been tested in a wind tunnel to an entirely DIFFERENT shape car, changes the characteristics of the wing completely and it may even provide lift instead of down force .

I dont know if you noticed mike, but them wings are all different, and belive me, you CANT buy those same wings off the shelf in Japan, we got 100s of Jap mags at work, you can buy similar wings, but not THOSE ones (most of the wings on the track cars actually are slightly wider than the car itself, unlike the road ones you see for sale), so its not for Sales reasons.

And if it was for looks reasons the cars would be all kitted up, but they not, they very minimalistic barring the front and rear aerodynamic parts...

Okay, but I would still want the downforce figures before I accepted what you were saying . Just call me a doubting Thomas .

And the fact that they ARE all different is adding to my scepticism, as you would expect all the R32s to have something similar (or even the same) and all the R33s to have the same and all the R34s to have the same, as this would indicate to me that they had been tested and settled on a design known to work....

the white r34 in the 3rd and 5th picture looks suspicously like a r32 with that r34 bodykit on, awaiting confirmation mind

if i had the first 200mph saff coz in the world, id be shoutin the fuka from the rooftops and tellin every fuka at every opportuntity, it amazes me how many people on here have a go at rod and his boasts i dont understand the car is and should be a legend, rod owns it, mark built it, we ALL should be proud of it and the fact thats it IS a saff is amazing, i think rod gets a hard time for no apparent reason??? i think you lot are jealous and are haters if the bloke who owns the fastest saff in the world wants to remind us of it then thats ok by me, i mean how many times are you reminded that a ferrari does 200mph or a mclaren does 240mph, only evertime theres anything said about it,

ROD , TELL ME AGAIN .....WHATS THE TOP SPEED OF YOUR CAR....?

Thought so

Not saying most have drove one or the other or have drove one spec of cossie or one spec skyline.

I meant how many have drove each with a genuine and veriable 500 bhp.

and for the record i have my full bike license and have had it for 12yrs so i aint deluded or blinkered , just my experiance
I've had exactly the same experiance with EVERY bike that I have raced........trouble is, as soon as you mention it on here (PassionFord) quite a few blinkered bikers will post up that it could not possibly have happened the way I said......they wer'nt there at the time but they are convinced a 511 BHP Cossie it not fast enough (from 120 MPH onwards) to go racing bikes Even Rod (Tarry) said that a Cossie with 422 ft/LBS has "no torque" and would be out of i'ts depth trying to race fast bikes

take one fast cossie and take one fast bike tuned to the same spec.

anyone that honestly thinks thier car is faster than a bike is mad. or comparing thier TUNED car to a bog standard 600 sports where quite often the only tuning that gets done is a can, filter and some mild jetting.

no way in hell youll ever keep up with a decent supersports... in the cossie. or ANY car for that matter.

(nb a car is going to be faster ROUND the bends. but the bike can go in faster and come out faster.)

eg off the top of my head.

zx12r (already modelled in this thread )

0-60 sub 3s
0-150 in the region of 9.5 seconds.

top whack of around 186 mph (limited)

now those figures are from memory and fairly old. off a standard bike.

thats maybe 8k worth of bike.

show me any 8k car that can do that?
show me any cars that can do that? i know there are a couple so take the money it cost to make a car beat that bike, and spend it on that bike now were talking.

ultimately the most important thing to remember tho is that you cant fall off a car (unless your being REALLY daft )

anyhoo rant over, back on topic.......

Whatre the power losses through a skylines gearbox with all its fancy trickery when compared to the cossies lump of good old cast iron?

Quick Reply: 500bhp skyline v 500bhp cossie
