amazed my car ran let alone drove
over the last couple of days, had a bit of a misfire at around 4500 rpm when at full throttle and full boost (22psi), anways, decided to check plugs - they are all good and then checked leads - all good, and then dizzycap and rotor arm - foooooooook me, cap is mega furry inside - like a 70's porn star and the arm contacts were black bright - they look like they are original items
so a quick change of them and now the tickover is super smooth, starting is instant and its all very nice so thought while i was down there (ooeeeer) i may aswell check all electrical contacts.
phase sensor plug - green mould inside - cleaned off and WD40'd
CPS sensor plug - full of oil white spirit in to remove the oil and WD40 to clean out totally
Knock Sensor wire - broken
and i've found a sensor that sits beteween the oil modine and the dizzy - whats this then?
apart from that little lot, she is now once again, flying
still tho - best get myselfa nice dizzyless installation from Stu

failing you getting onto msn before i goto work, the crank position sensor, located at 5 o'clock (if you look at the crank pully face on) is held on by 2 securing bolts of which are 8mm.
to remove the CPS, unbolt the 8mm bolts, and then gentally wiggle the sensor untill it slides out the hole - you may want to use a small flat fladed screwdriver to lever slightly on the metal frame of the cps - do not lever on the face between the crank and the sensor as this will damage it
it should slide out pretty easy, and to clean, just give it a wipe with a bit of kitchen towel soaked in WD40 or white spirits
at the end of the day, its a proximity sensor as used by machinery in industry, so its pretty robust, but brittle at the same time - once totally clean, you will see a little metal bit in the top - which is about 4mm diameter, this is the bit that picks up the crank lugs if there are any metal filings or objects on it, then it will send false information back to the ecu.
to unplug the cps from the loom, just to the right of the dizzy, there are 2 plugs, cream in colour - you will need to lever these apart using a large flat screwdriver on the edge and twist, then do the same on the other edge to remove evenly
its really easy - just be carefull not to kink the wire at all as its 20 years old and will probably snap
