i think there torque figure is well down compared to the BHP. they aren't as quick as the 343 suggests.

In the grand scale of things a standard 3dr's performance is piss poor but pretty much on a par with a new M3. The M3 is an awesome car though, so much so I nearly bought one but ended up going for an e39 M5.

If you’re comparing the M3 with a majority of other standard road cars then yes, it's a damn fast and very capable car, which also highlights how quick the Cossie was nearly 20 odd years ago and even in standard form still is today.
sorry mate but thats if your talkin about the same car, the new shape m3! convertable or not would piss on a std 3dr, and 30-50 aint much of a test, that would only take about 1 1/2 seconds, i raced one in my 330 saf and there was tiny amount in it so theres no way you could do the same with 130bhp less the m3 either wasnt tryin, the road was crap so any gti would have been the same , or your car was a lot faster than std

Absolutely fpmsl a keeping with one in a standard cossie Advise your mate to take it back, it must be fucked

winds me up everyone saying they piss them in their stage 1 cos's, rs turbo's etc. I know smit raced one in his stage 3+ cossie the other week and I think the m3 beat him...

My mate had an e36 m3 evo convertible and that didnt seem mega fast. raced him in my old 210bhp honda and he beat me, just not by too much, raced a new shape one in the honda and he made me look like a fuck me milk float

According to www.bm3w.co.uk the fastest an E46 M3 can quartermile in is 13.1/13.2
The Official BMW 0-62 is 5.2 and it feels like it!

they aren't as quick as that mate. i'm talking about normal M3's, not the CSL.

they can manage mid 5 second 0-60's, mid 13's on the 1/4 mile. a stage 3 S13 200SX (300bhp) will be able to match those times. hence, why i said their torque figure doesn't match their bhp figure.

i'm not saying they are not fast, simply they aren't as quick as you'd think for the power they have.

Always funny when people compare cars they only talk about BHP/torque figures, quartermile times and 0-60 times....

A BMW M3 not as quick as you would expect from the BHP figures?
Well unless it's being driven by an idiot you'd have a very hard time indeed getting past on any given B-road in your tuned 200SX, Cos or whatever sorta shitheap you care to try! It's about the whole package and the M3 is a GOOD package...

Sorry, you`re correct - I didn`t read the original post correctly I was referring to the e36 and not the later e46 m3, hence my reference to the e39 m5 which is what I would class as being from the same era as the e36 m3. However your figures are IMO a little out; mid 12 seconds down the 1/4 is optimistic for even an e46 13.5 / 13.4 is much more like it, as is 5.5seconds 0-60.

Also I’m assuming my 3dr is standard (it was certainly sold as that!) It’s the first Cosworth I’ve owned so have nothing to compare it with as such. The only rr (Circuit Motors at Castle Combe) info I have for it is 188bhp at the wheels, does that sounds right for a standard Cossie? Would have though transmission loss would mean it would be slightly less? 160 or so?
You are also dreaming if you think a standard 3 door could beat an E36, straight, corners or otherwise unless it was stuck in 1st

Quick Reply: what sort of bhp have the new M3 BMW
