Indeed, and its not just the 9000rpm+ to worry about of course, its also some pretty montrous valve acceleration rates on top of that so the lifters are worked even harder than the rpm implies on its own.

If you aren't going to rev much over 8k very often and its really a road engine then I can't see why you can't stay on hydraulics as Cossiemanden says. BUT I would ask someone much more technical than me!
One advantage I found of being on mechanical lifters was that when I accidently selected 2nd gear instead of 4th gear and the engine saw well over 10k revs briefly the engine got away undamaged. if it was on hydraulic lifters I am pretty sure I would have bent a few valves...
