serious question for the SNAP-ON users...
bearing in mind the mad price of most Snap-On kit, what is the attraction to buy it, besides the £xx per month buy-now pay-later scheme..?
Personally I struggle with the concept of it being "the best" these days, especially at the price..
I don't want to start a brand war here, just genuinely interested

maybe the lifetime gaurantee? even if you break stuff through blatant misuse, they generally replace it.

Tool boxes are deffinately the best and I won't buy any other.

As for the tools. They are of very good quality and come with the life time warranty. Also the fact that a van pulls up in your yard, you step on the van for 10 minutes, get your broken tools repaired and buy/pay some money off and go back to work without having to fuck about going to a shop and them posting it off to the factory for a repair. There is the advantage of extended credit and paying your bill weekly/monthly.

I hate MAC hand tools so will always buy Snap-On but I like the MAC multimeters. Them are the only 2 tool vans that come to our workshop. the Britool vans disapeared.

Gareth. It's a simple as this. I want my tools in an order where I can lay my hands on them without having to hunt them down which means a big tool box. Then when they get thrown in and out of vans, battered and pushed across an uneven workshop floor, the spot welds are under some serious stress.

I have seen cheaper end MAC, Britool etc etc all crack, bend and some end up looking like the leaning tower of pisa. Some I have even sen collapse. If I spend a few £ on a tool box I want it to last. The bonus is if you break the Snap-On box, you get it replaced.

I also want a secure tool box that locks properly. I haven't seen a decent locking system on any other toolbox apart from one which had a bar right down the front of the draws, but then that goes back to a small toolbox with cracking spot welds again.

Some MAC toolboxes would appear to be GLUED together!!!

The "cool" image has changed to be honest. Most apprentice gimps can't be arsed to spend loads on tools so they buy cheap shit and then piss the rest up the wall or consume recreational pharmaceuticals!

I agree the boxes are expensive but if you buy the cheaper alternative which is the same size, they seem to collapse. I am talking workshop environment and not a tool box for at home in the garage of course.

Got to agree with Gus, that unless you have had one or used one you don't understand the quality difference.

Brom is also right, Snap-On boxes hold their money like fook. Trade one in against a new box and you're garanteed to get a big lump of cash for it.

My first Snap-On box was £440 and I got £200 trade in 7 years later.

Yep Facom are very much still going.. and more widespread in the UK now.
Lifetime guarantee, and nice quality.
Shame about Britool though, taken over by Facom and pretty much shafted..
