Default Idle Control Valve

How can you tell if the idle control vale is faulty and isnt working?

My Cosworth managed FRST runs perfectly apart from the idle speed.

Even with the Idle Speed Screw all the way in it idles at 1700rpm and I cant get this any lower.

Any ideas what the problem could be and if its the control valve?

Any help will be appreciated.

PF01 ONLY
Disconnect the ecu multiplug from the ecu itself and then with a multimeter:

Pin 1 of ecu connect your negative probe.
Pin 17 of ecu connect your positive probe.

Adjust the sensor until it is just open circuit and ensure it drops to a reading the moment the throttle is moved, but be certain it always goes open circuit with the throttle released.

also mate, are you sure you don't have an air-leak anywhere as this would also cause a dodgy idle... Make sure the throttle cable has been properly adjusted!

Mine wasn't and it was idling between 1500-3k!!

What you may find, the FRST throttles have a little preset "stop" on them, I assume set at the factory...I had a problem with mine that this stop was set so that plentyful amounts of air were getting through even when the throttle was "shut"......quick adjustment and its sorted

Gareth

No, nothing happens when I disconnect the Idle speed control valve. Could this be my problem or do you still think it will be the TPS?

Has it been ok or an ongoing problem?

If you bring it to me i can plug it up to a monitor and find out if the sensors are setup corectly and that they are all working, it wont cost anything
I can datalog the way your engine management is controling the engine over a set amount of time while driving. Then show you on a computer in graph format + you will see if there is any problems with map and sensors all in one.

This will give you a very good insight to the running of your engine and may even stop damage happening.
