Its a I4 engine iirc... not a zetec or sigma.
The auto boxes are always cack!
Yellow pages is the best place to look for your local autobox place, but its not cheap!

From memory these are like hens teeth, you'd be better off getting the old one repaired as it might work out cheaper ...
Heres a few links to get you started in the right direction:

I'm not sure how useful the links are going to be but you've nowt to loose ....

Ultima's don't run a 2.0 zetec unit. Auto boxes are available for these at reasonable cost - I know because I've just done one which was sourced through 'Ford only breakers' in Swindon (will get you the telephone number a little later) for Ł200 inc. VAT + delivery.
They aren't a very strong box anyway and suffer with common failures around the 100k mark, either lose reverse or the O/D and sensors fail and won't shift up and down properly. It's a crap job to do as well so it's not a quick or easy job. I wouldn't waste my money on a rebuild as you'll probably end up spending well in excess of Ł300 (and that's if YOU take the box out) unless you use a reputable transmission specialist who won't charge you for things that haven't been done.
Most people will say, 'mate it's an auto, they're really complicated and we don't often do them so it's going to cost you'

This box has a self-protect function when the oil level gets low.......
It locks out reverse!
Check / top up the oil level before you go buying a box.

Nope - I think there's as much chance of that happening as my lottery numbers coming in on saturday! He's about as useful as a dead slothe PMSL.
He did however spend four hours telling me how to remove a steering wheel from a mondeo without detonating the airbag ha ha. Man, he can tell a story!

Got a bit more to add to this now. Reverse was working when dad left the auction but wasnt woeking when he got back. Was also working yesterday after the car had been sat all day. But after a bit of run stopped working again. Seems to be enough oil. Any ideas????

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Are you checking the oil level correctly - as bernie says above - to check it with the engine running in park? That's a bit unusual, so don't want you to be checking it wrong

Also, you're meant to go up and down the box, P to 1 then back again 3 times. I had to do that on my old 24v to check the gearbox oil.
on the older boxes, it used to lose drive rather than reverse as well, odd eh?
i guess the box you're using is an ALD4e as well (does it have an E and an S button near the selector?)

more than likely the oil. deffo worth checking, might save ya a few quid.
if's it brown on the dipstick, it needs doing. should be a cherry red colour.
look for the Granada Enthusiasts forum, go to the MK3 section, and look for the "Common problems" thread I created. Takes you through how to do it.
