he'll probably get a mate to admit to driving it for him. lots of people run, its a gut reaction to do it. he's in a bad situation and needs to get away as quickly as possible. it gives him a chance to think about what to do.
i don't think he sat down at the side of the road with a notepad and wrote out a list of pros and cons on running away. your not thinking properly at that point.
