Default Greys without LIVE map ?

Is it possible to run a cossy engine on grey injectors without having the car live mapped ? the car has all the bits needed low comp etc ????

the injectors are so big that the chip only has to be a few milliseconds out on the fuelling for it to cause irrepairable engine damage ie: bore wash and it doesnt take very long to do either.

i would be taking it to msd to be set up, checked and mapped properly certainly cheaper than fixing engines.

define 'live' map though?

my car was set up by Stu/Kenny and wasnt live mapped as such, on the other hand it was properly set up (they replaced the chip as they deemed it unsuitable to drive nicely on the road) and checked/road tested it. It drives heaps better since.

So it wasnt an 'off the shelf' chip but it also wasnt live mapped

live map = mapped specifically for your engine and ancilliarys done this way the car will allways run and perform much better than a one size fits all chip.

uncle henry was yours on greys.?

yeah mines on greys, low comp, bd10's etc. It went for a check up before I exported it to Australia.

Kenny test drove it and decided it wasnt very road friendly, found there was no ignition advance curve to speak of, so they supplied a new chip and set it up from there. It was not 'live mapped', just setup and tuned on the road with a gas analyser up its arse to ensure correct fueling etc.

drives shitloads better and Im happy in the knowledge its not running lean and about to die! (even if I did freeze to death in the waiting room for hours!!!! )

Aint that borewash problem on greys a bit inflated? Or does it take just a little over fueling for it to happen?

I remember it was a hot topic back in the nineties. I ran greys back in 98 on a stage2 conversion without any problems at all.

Consumed less fuel than my current Bayjoo conversion.
It was checked over with a lambda meter though so thats perhaps why it ran fine without problems.

When I bought my 3 door I checked the CO myself at my local mot station..it was around 7% at idle!! I spoke to Collins as I was getting some bits off them at the time and they said thats normal, I asked about borewash driving it round own etc - they gave me a funny look and said I shouldnt be driving it round town as its "not that sort of car".

I forget what the CO was it was redone at msd but it was under 3% anyway and a hell of a lot more driveable - it 'shunted' if you were in at a slightly higher gear than the speed of the car allowed. it does none of that with the new chip.

i ran an off the shelf greys chip once and melted the engine after 200 miles.
the engine had only done 1200 from a new rebuild.
on stripping the engine down to build it again the amount of bore wash was phenominal.
so in conclusion the chip fuelled far to much right through the range and then to cap it off it had way to much ignition advance at the top which promptly disposed of three pistons.

the co reading on mine now is 0.6% and it drives better than a standard car.

ian seems to be a similair story have lost the third engine after about a thousand miles after running in .every thing was checked to make sure it was ok electirly and mechanicly .was doing about 140 and it just missed and all over running a Armed chip and ironically had decided to go back to greens too

thats the one neil bit of a hesitation come off the throttle look in the mirror james bond type smoke screen. pistons melted, hence why its best to have them mapped properly.
