I certainly cant name many people just about to retire, who have had serious health problems (stomach cancer or something IIRC) for the last decade who still have the bottle to be doing 198mph 400 yards from the tyre wall.
Stop and actually think about what that must be like, seeing those tyres aproaching and you are now 100 yards from them and still doing about 100, tyres scrabbling for grip etc.
Its not as easy as people seem to think it is.
Also wasnt marks run done with just him in the car but rods done with a passenger?
That corrola was 4 mph slower with a passenger.
So if im right about mark doing it solo that basically means that Rod matched his drivign and it was only the weight difference effecting it (like that corrola when steve got out)
I bet most people on this forum couldnt have done any better than rod did, even those of us half his age.
If i'm half that cool at 60 i'll be happy as hell, in fact i wish i was half that cool now

I view Rod as someone who is very self confident and very proud of his achievements, that isnt arrogant though at all in my view not when he is still so willing to listen and learn etc.
For example:
when his car was dropping in power due to running rich at the end of his runs and him and mark hadnt pinpointed the problem yet with it he mentioned it on here.
i sent him a PM explaining what was happening and how to fix it (its a nitrous issue), i didnt encounter arrogance from him at all, just a clever man with an open mind who wanted to listen and thanked me for my input, he didnt turn round and say "youve never done a run at brunters how would you know" or anything arrogant like that.
I dont see how anyone can call someone who has achieved so much and yet is still willing to listen to a relative newcomer to the scene like myself arrogant.
Some people just cant accept other people being confident and outgoing so label them with arrogance when they arent.

I never understood all the piss taking about Rod's driving,
ROD DOES DRIVE HIS CAR FLAT OUT!!
He has done 198mph in it and wants to do over 200mph next time round! The only reason Marks times are noted is because he is faster. Simple as that!
Dingy et al taking the piss constantly, if you put Micheal Schumacher or someone in your Mk2 and they got a record lap time round your beloved Donno I don't doubt for one second that you would boast about having the record holding Mk2 Escort.

Shame that there is always digs about Rod's driving. How many peeps off here could actually say that they have got any where near a genuine 200 mph. And on top of that who has done that at nearly 60 years old? I doubt there are many people. Rod is one of the most intelligent people i have met and if by his own addmission he feels Mark is faster then so be it. Why keep on, and as Dave has said, Rod does drive his own car at Brunters and damn quickly.

lol @ Lewis well go on you 200sx bb then
IMO Rod has done near enough 200mph. And why should Rod go to where you want Dingy when he has ask you to go to Brunters in the past where all the cars seem to be testing etc?
Plus wasnt all of Rods and MArks tops speeds done with people in the passnger seat?

couldnt agree more with what Chip has said
to all the ppl who keep going on about him not doing 200
Even if I wont the lottery I dont think it would be worth building a fast car as ppl would always be slagging me/it off saying something/someone was faster in one certain situation or another
