Anyone into Go-Karts ?

Talk about a big question to answer
Yes, I've got a few karts, and used to race them.
I haven't done in a while because of educational commitments.
What do you want out of it? To race competitively is hugely expensive - esp re: spares packages, engine rebuilds etc......

I had one years ago. Was a member of Grampian Kart Club and used it for fun up on there circuit. (and the occasional blast through the local ind est on a sat afternoon) Had a 125cc long circut gearbox which used a Rotax engine. It had a rev counter in the centre of the steering wheel which read 18,000 rpm had it as a toy for around 5 yrs and was mental fun. Needed to keep the maintanence up and give it a full rebuild at least once a year to keep it running sweet but was well worth it. Only sold it along with all the spares package and custom built trailer to give me a deposit for a house I will buy another one day, once i've lost about 6 stone

been into karts for years, raced up to british championship level
decide what class you want get into by visiting your local kart club/circuit, look for the fullest grids and go down that road, walk around the pits and have a chat with a few people (there a friendly lot)
the most common/cheapest at the moment is rotax max....long intervals between engine rebuilds/sealed engine class/durable tyres...they are a direct drive non g/ box
great for a beginner
have fun

Rory - that's the thing - most people have only experienced indoor, or at best outdoor pro-kart stuff.
I'm not knocking it, cos it's a good laugh with a bunch of mates, but race karts are a whole different ball game - geared well, you wouldn't believe just how quick they are

Pro-karts are alright to muck about in with a bunch of mates but driving a Rotax is an absolute laugh and easier I found because the extra power lets you move the kart around how you want.
I'd imagine the gearbox classes would be ridiculous, especially on a smaller circuit !
