Default Combrake brake kits any good??

Hi,

as stated above want to upgrade my brakes but not sure if these are any good? Only for road use not tracking the car? Any reviews or personal experiences? Any insight would be appreciated cheeRS

I just looked on the website and the big brake kits look well made and are a lot less money than AP etc. Will be a big improvement over the standard set-up.

Hi mate thanks for the reply, they do look good but seen on here some people saying that they weren’t very good back in 2010 mark, just wondering if some one has more up to date experience on the kits? If that makes sense?

Been running their calipers on my rally car for years, no issues. The people that own the company now are much more customer focussed on service and quality.

hi mate thanks for the reply, my only reserve is that they are a lot cheaper than the equivalent ap racing kit, they can’t be that different in quality do you think? In regards to the hawk pads what’s your verdict on them? Is it possible you for different branded ones or do you have to stick with them?

There are differences between them and AP of course. But AP are designed for 10\10ths racing, you aren't looking for that so they will be fine. Even my use has seen zero issues.
hawk pads are good. Just check temp ranges you need.

That’s great thank you for sharing your experience with them, I’ll think I’ll go with these then it’s only ever going to be road use, do you think I’ll need to upgrade the servo and master cylinder from standard to accommodate the bigger brakes?

That’s interesting to hear! Thanks very much for the reply, seems that combrake have ironed out the issues we’re posting about before so I think I’ll go with them.

do you have them on the rear aswell?? How does that work? Do you think the master cylinder etc will cope with this set up on the front?

I do yes, but bare in mind mine is a a 4wd WRC. I use the 4 pot rear all the time, but depending on surface and the wheel sizes can change to 4 pot fronts on 315mm discs or 6 pot fronts with 370mm discs
I also run a bias pedal setup too. Don't try to add 4 pots to the rear of an RST
Not needed

Ah right I see that could have been disastrous on my part couldn’t it! 🤣 so you think I’ll be alright with these up front drums on the back and the standard servo etc?

As someone else has said make sure you get the right brake pads with the kit. The car is set up for road use so you need pads which work well from scratch. Looks like a good kit you are going for.

Been running compbrake brakes on my road/trackday saph for about 14 yrs, and they have been great, used with standard cossie servo, currently with 350x32 discs.

thanks for the reply mate, they look great! I’ve spoken to combrake and just need to measure the inside clearance on the Monte Carlo wheels I have at home just to check the kit will fit inside but won’t be back home till Friday as work away, fingers crossed all good otherwise i will have to drop down a size which to me seems pointless I may aswell keep the Cosworth set up on the front if that makes sense?!
