Sapph prices!
Not been on here for a while but have been watching the ones that have been doing the round for sale recently, has anyone actually seen any sell for the mid to high 20’s as the just keep getting re-listed?
In my opinion I can’t see them being worth more than 15 to 20G
what’s your views?

Prices for classic cars - especially all the top models from all manufacturers - went through the roof during the last 5+ years. While some cars (with big racing history and small numbers like Gr. B homologation cars or DTM cars) were already expensive before and didn't get that much more expensive (like a E30 BMW M3 or a late G-Model 911 Carrera) the prices asked for other cars is ridiculous sometimes. And we're talking about cars that were not so popular before. Like a RWD Sapphire Cosworth, a MK2 XR2 (although in Germany nearly all want a MK1 Fiesta), MK3/4 Escort XR3i, Sierra XR4i etc.
Problem is there's too many people out there who don't know what to do with their money and fancy a classic car to play with the other "kids".

See a saff up for 25k on facebook a few weeks ago, then see it pop up again posted by the new owner.
And a few days ago a delivery driver posted up a saff, saying nice car owner just paid 40K ( tho i think he might have been trolling or lied to ) , tho this saff was up for 25k in december 2020 and sold back then
both just over 100k on the clocks and modded, so not low milage , standard collectors jobs

I payed 7G for a bare metal respray but that was with no bodywork needed, but would never expect to get that money back I just don’t see how the can be worth the mid to high 20’s even in top condition, they are like houses as you know you can spend & spend on upgrades - modifications but if you overstep the market value you’ve lost some of that money, all you do is make it more saleable.

With the low numbers of Sierra cosworths built and the cult following they had and still have I can only see the prices going up for the good ones that remain
If anyone had a genuine 1 owner standard mint very low miler you can guarantee it would fetch ridiculous money now

My own personal story I couldn't afford a high spec Cossie like rods back in the 90s and early 2000s, but it was something I very much wanted a stage 3 saph was what opened my eyes to a proper fast car in the 90s
As life goes on we get older and if we get wealthier we can then relive that dream later in life, this I think plays a big part in the prices rising
Once us Cossie generation shall we say all get old and push up daisies I guess they might well be worth sod all again 🤣😂

At any shows that I take my 2wd Saff to I get a constant flow of people of all ages that are interested in it. I don't think their appeal is getting less as they get older, I would say the opposite!

I remember paying 3200 for mine about 20 years ago lol I was very young and stretched myself to buy it. I just paid more than that for the exhaust system on the thing lol

PassionFord Post Whore!!
A couple of years ago I had a new stainless steel custom made centre silencer box made, oval shape to give better ground clearance than the usual round shaped one as the car is quite low. Cost me £680, so I can see a complete system custom made would cost a lot. My car was there all day as there was nothing off the shelf that they could use. It is a skilled job to custom make an exhaust system and that will be reflected in the price.

My son no2 made this for son no1 turbo intergra it cost around £800 in material. 3.5” working on the theory that the exhaust should be 1.5x the exducer size🤷♂️
