Default 25k Sig limit?

Right, first off, this aint a dig at anyone!

I fully understand that the site costs money to run, and the more images etc it shows, the longer it takes to load, blah blah, thats all cool, and a bit up to Pet and Stu for doing it

But!

Ive been making myself a new sig, finished it, then uploaded it, and remembered it had to be under 25k... back into photoshop i went, resized it, compromised a bit of image quality, and checked the filesize.. 32k bugger. Tried again, resized it, cut the quality a bit, still 29k.

Finally got it to less than 25k, and this is the outecome:

Shocking quality, you have to agree?

Either, im doing something wrong?, or the 25k limit is taking the piss a wee bit?

Agian, no offence intended, but in my honest opinion, 35k would be alot better, and shouldn't really affect loading times greatly? Especially, as i assume most* are on some form of broadband?

Im afraid the error is at your end pal

Look at some of the siggys around and you will have to admit, clarity is not a problem with 25K. Look at Nicoles for a start with only 21K!

When you save the file as a JPG turn the LZW compression down from high to the lowest setting. that should help.

I had the same problem and ended up with a postage stamp size sig

Cheers

If you use Adobe Photoshop it has an option "Save for web" where you can change the quality and it shows you what size the file will end up as

i REALLY struggles to get photoshop to save a sig smaller than 25k! even on lowest compression! i THINK its something to do with NTFS... the file size is estimated 16kj ish but when i save it to disk it always goes to about 28k

Cheers, should have been using the save for web option insted of just lowering the compression after saving as a Jpeg. ( )
