Why bother, just buy something else that's got more power in the first place.

If there's a bigger engine in the same series then that would be a good starting point. Fords diesels seem to release a bit more power with a remap, and perhaps upgrade the front intercooler to something a bit larger?

We were at Santa Pod a few years ago and a group from Portugal had made the trip with a few highly tuned diesels that made good times down the strip, they were well into their oil squashers.

The 1.8tdci is a terrible engine to good power out of the head doesn't flow very well like others have said get a some else with more power to start with or if you want to keep to a diesel use the 1.6 tdci which is very tuneable up to 230hp 350fbt with just bolt-ons take a look at my build thread https://passionford.com/forum/restor...i-project.html this is a bit extreme but shows what can be done.

I had tThe 1.8 tdci in a mk1 and it was brilliant all the time it was standard, i got told repeatedly that these engines dont like
to be modified and after and remap air filter and starlight through exhaust, it ate its own injectors.

if you want to swap to another diesel engine may be worth looking at what gets modified, maybe something VAG as i cant imagine any of the 2.0 or 2.2 ford engines being a direct fit

as said above tho unless your getting the engine cheap and doing all the work your self it’s probably not worth it

The 1.8 TDCi 115bhp was the biggest diesel in the Mk1 / Mk1.5, power and cc wise. No idea if a Mk2 TDCi would fit.
