Default BC gearbox bearings uprated early/late? Fiesta 1.4si

Hi my mk2 XR2 box is dying on the end of my 2.0 Zetec, have heard the late model BC boxes had uprated bearings

Just remembered I've got a Fiesta 1.4si box in good nick, being a later box does anyone know if it'd have the stronger bearings or would that just apply to the boxes on bigger-engined cars?

All BC boxes are the same bearing wise, if by "later" BC, you actually mean an ib5 then yes these had larger bearings. Pretty sure a Fez Si would be using an ib5

I don't know thought it looked like a BC? Just read there were two generations of BC

Never really seen an IB5 to my knowledge so they weren't all hydraulic clutch then? Is it possible to convert hydraulic to cable?

Mk4 what?
But yes in most cases (eg Mk4 Escort) BC and iB5 are interchangeable with no mods to the driveshafts etc, just the cradle to consider as Escort mk5/6 use 2x gbox mounts that the box hangs from rather than sits on

Sorry yea tis an Escort. I remember reading an IB5 into escort guide years ago but thought had to cut/weld chassis, was ages ago though so I'm sure I'm wrong...like I cant remember anything about cradle probs (or driveshafts/selector) so thanks for that.

Gona fit the 1.4 si box for now so hope you're right & it's an ib5 (is there any way to tell by looking?) if it lasts I'll chuck the diff in sometime, got 160 hp afw so think I'll leave it about there with what I've learnt from this! Unless I come into some £££ but if I can pick up a 5/6 Escort box cheap I will

You're thinking of MTX, they need the chassis notched/cut into.

ib5 has extra webbing, but other than that and the mounting points, theres little difference. Easily confirmed via quick google image really...

Perfect mate

Well I've just been out with my torch & had a look and it's got the webbing & that lil black box on the top, so I guess it's an IB5!

Swap it next wk, all goes well I'll put the diff in next year or get a spare put in that & swap. Excellent

Whoop whoop!
