Uprate BC bearings or go 6-speed? Mk4 Escort Zetec

Not sure what to do about my gearbox...have 2 mk2 xr2 BC's, one has a turbo lsd but it's the open diff one I've been running on my 2.0 blacktop. It's been okay for a while but sounds like the mainshaft bearings have had enough :/
Have read that later BCs had stronger bearings, has anyone fitted these to an earlier box or is it easier (or cheaper cos I'll be getting this done elsewhere) to just get a later box & swap diffs? I'd like to keep the xr2 ratios but guess these could be swapped over too when it's all apart
Or is there a strong enough 6-speed + selector that'll fit? Would it take my lsd?
Thanks

I went through tons of gearboxes on my old xr3i, wish i'd have swapped to something stronger. If you're using a zetec, you might as well go for something good like an mtx75 from a focus, or a getrag 6 speed from an st170. they should both hold up fine to the abuse. Neither will take the rst lsd though.

I want to use the lsd though if I can. Would the 1.7 puma box be a straight swap & would it take my lsd? Does it need a hydraulic clutch?
Looking at Karlos G's ZT build thread the Ka box seems good except for the hydraulics. Needs to be simple & easy as pos so would rather keep cable clutch
What had you done to your xr3i for it to get through boxes like that? Just out of interest
Thanks for help

it was only a 2.0 zvh, around 150bhp. The gearboxes are just weak unfortunately. My last gearbox held up but it was using ib5 bearings inside (from the newer ka/puma/fiesta/focus boxes), i don't think it would have held up forever though as you see fiesta st150s destroying gearboxes with the same power.
Puma box will not fit as bellhousing is different unfortunately. There is no cheap and easy fix to this problem, you either have to make do with weak boxes and rst LSD'd, or splash some cash for a quaife diff, plus a gearbox conversion.

that's a shame
Remembered I've got a 1.4si fiesta box so might fit that for now see how it lasts, if it does a year ok chuck the diff in...otherwise look out for an mtx or gertrag. I guess they'd both need hydraulic clutch though, would they be fine with my shafts & selector?
& maybe save up for a quaife...i'm guessing Ł500+
