Talking New member: Sierra 2000E

Hi all

New member here awaiting delivery of my foray into classic Ford ownership: a Sierra 2000E with only 12,000 miles on it!

Looking forward to browsing round the forums and seeing what I can learn. I've actually bought the car sight unseen, but have been assured it's the best available.

Anything in particular I need to look out for? Will servicing it and finding spare bits be a doddle?

Thanks all

Wow, it looks a cracker.

Did these run the twin cam engine or are they Pinto powered?

It looks in superb condition! With such low miles I would be suprised if you will be needing any spare parts for it for quite a while. Keep it standard and just enjoy it.

Fully intend to keep it standard. It's the only way!

Two initial concerns are overheating and dash cracks. I read a thread on here about swapping the fan switch for one used on the Mondeo 1.8 diesel, which cuts in at a much lower temp. So I've ordered one of those. Also looking for a dash top cover, but no joy as yet.

Also, do you think it would be wise to change the cam chain?

Looks lovely!

Not sure about the switch, what you can do is check it’s colour. If it’s red that is the “high/huge” span one. Green does what you describe, i.e closes earlier and has a shorter cycle.

I know these have a fuel computer which is pretty cool.

I don’t think so, re the chain.

Hi

Welcome in.

i would probably say to have a look at my 2000e build thread over on the Ford Sierra Owners Club below

http://forum.fordsierraclub.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=52094

as for the chain, I would inspect it and if in doubt, change it. If it goes, you are looking at a replacement engine and they are easy to change.

my rule is if used for short journeys or not maintained, the chain is stretching by 50k, if long journeys and maintained it starts around 100k, but the plastic guides can break in the meantime which will quicken the process. Listen for ANY slight rattle on startup in the 1st 5 seconds of a cold start.

Can't wait to get it now, and check out my "electronic sound system ECU2 with power amplifier" :P

Cheers!!
