Well I don't really know anything about the performance of the 2000e to be honest, but you say it feels right for you then so be it. In the end it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks mate, I'm glad you're enjoying your Saff. Oh and yeah, I agree the Saffs look good, but then I would wouln't I.

take the engine out and put a mk5/6rs2000 engine in it and you will thank me as the old 8v dohc 2000e engine is shit, the 2000e is was the best spec`d sierra fords had at one point and are still nice motors.
mt dad and i had one and in a whole year of motoring and the odd sideways all we ever done to it was an oil and filter change........used to be owned by a guy on here too

Hi Whitley, you aren't the first to miss the fact that this is a Sierra/Sapphire Cosworth forum and I doubt you'll be the last. Anyway, good luck with your 2000E, apparently the grey leather is unique to the 2000E and very nice indeed. But personally I'd have stuck to the Escort GTi, but that's just me

Since you're 18, insurance will be high on this Sierra, since it's probably a Cat 18. So, expect to be paying some high sums.
I disagree about the 2.0 I4 being junk, but if you must do ONE modification, make sure you wire the electric fans to be on all the time.
These engines will blow head gaskets if they overheat, and usually it's due to the fan switch giving up the ghost. You will thank me for it later. Also change the radiator fluid once a year, and change the timing chain & tensioner as soon as you buy it - then change that once every five years (you'd probably have flogged it by then).

the I4 came in 8V form in the granada's first, then the sierra's,
then they made the transition to the 16V head in the RS2000
after that there were limited (as in 2 months worth) of mondeo's and granada's with them in the 8V but with edis setup before they were ALL 16V motors
they had less power than the escorts due to different cams etc
they also did them in a 2.3 in the later years
these engines also graced transits in various forms for a few years
there is a NEW I4 numbered engine as in the newest generation of ford 16v'ers but thats totaly different
the fan switch needs to be replaced, if you go to ford and get on from a 1.8 TD mondeo they run much cooler and the fans will kick in at 95c and not 110c but make sure the fans are working first by shorting out the terminals left top/bottom and right top/bottom for each fan at the switch
turn the ignition off before you put the wires in and then turn it on to see if the fans work
after that you need to go and change the timing chain, they snap with litaraly no notice whatsoever, and when they go you can say goodbye to the engine as it's not just the valves it will trash, they almost certainly snap no1 main cap
Ł120 should see you with all the bits you need
and if it's overheating, get it sorted sooner rather than later, sooner because you can catch the problem before you need a new head when the other one distorts like action man in the microwave

thanks for that mate i stand corrected........... but i still think the 2000e engine is shit
i just thought that the engine was a dohc pinto is it chain driven like the rs2k engine??? i never needed to take mine apart which is about all that was good about the engine reliable

it was designed for economy rather than power, and economy it give by the bucket load
the dohc pinto is the cossie engine (unless you get a piper head or even a warrior 16V conversion hidden away somewhere )
the bottom end is EXACTLY the same as the RS2K, even down to the pistons with the 4 valve cutouts
the only problem is that it's longitudinaly mounted, not tranvserly so you can't plonk it into the escort
there are a few people out there who have experimented with this engine (like me ) and should be ready to drop 180 bhp of 2.3 into the front of a sierra in the not to distant future not bad for an outlay of one sierra and about Ł300 for the bits and a bit of a rebuilding time

Dojj,
SapphyMike had a RS2000-powered Sapphy, and if I remember correctly he wasn't too impressed.
Obviously the late Scorpio or even the Galaxy 2.3 16v w/ balance shafts is beautiful thing. Too bad those never made it to a Sierra.
I had a Sierra Sapphire Ghia 4x4 w/ the I4 prior.
