I think I've asked this before, but it keeps happening and I don't know why. Almost every day the fan keeps going for a few minutes when I park the car. Noisy at times too, I see people
staring as I walk away from it. It's not as if I have been far too. Sometimes just about 3 miles to the supermarket and back home. Someone said it's natural for the Fords but maybe a mechanic might explain why this happens.

Our mk1 focus fans used to come on all the time.

It might just be how it is. My mk4 mondeo makes noises coming from the engine when it is switched off.

Thanks Glen, I am just curious that it stays on when the engine isn't even hot. But if it's a trait of Ford no need to worry.

Have a look in your hand book to see if there is any info in there about it.

Thanks Glenn, that's interesting as the reply said it was normal. Thanks for the link.

if the car does a lot of short journeys it probably trying to do a regen of the DPF (presume diesel) the fans being on is part of the process.

That's interesting, yes most of the week I am just doing short runs, I remember the mechanic at the Ford garage saying I need to run up and down the dual carriageway and open it out at least once a week. Specially as it was a diesel car.

If its trying to regen and you keep interrupting it the the dpf will eventually block and leave you with a huge bill for a new one. As said you need to give it regular long runs, if mine is doing a regen and I am at my destination then will drive round the block a couple of times while it finishes.

Yep, this.
My 3 series BMW does the same every now and again. Couldn't work it out to start with and then I realised it must've been part way through a regen.
As advised take your car for a decent run preferably on a motorway where you can keep a consistently high enough speed for the regen to complete.
Not sure how it works on the Fords but BMW's just need to be up to operating temperature and the speed kept higher than 38mph for the process to start and then complete.
