Default Its the End for TDI,S

Hello all I think anyone spending a lot of money on TDI are nutss,, the government does not want them on the road anymore and the situation with DPF is a massive joke, we were all led to believe that diesels were the way to go , there a nightmare when they go wrong and modern ones are very complexed.. so im looking at going back to basic petrol thank god,,

Diesels are fine if you use them for their intended use, mine and the wife's both do about 15k a year with regular motorway runs. In 7 years of having modern diesels I've never had a single problem.

If you use one just for pottering about then you should have done your homework properly.

I just hope the tax on them don't go sky high or anything like that.

I've never had diesels up until the one I have now. I can see why people go mad for them. There good on fuel and some of them are quick. They just sound like tractors lol.

Also JLR took their eye off the ball. I had the pleasure of dealing with JLR's PR team a few years back and if that's anything to go by then I'm not at all surprised they've got issues.

I’m not a dpf fan. Working on trucks diesel is all we do. Euro 4/5 ad blue came in which in fairness is a good set up it can have problems but nothing is perfect and mostly it’s very reliable. But to meet euro 6 daf also had to fit a dpf and egr. It’s been pretty problematic so far but they are continually developing and fine tuning the system

Diesel engines in cars are not the problem, nor are the engines in commercial vehicles. These are the cleanest they have ever been now at Euro6, bugger all comes out of them.
The problem is the government analysing old data. Typically they are looking at older models all the time, even 2 years ago, this is an old model.

The cheapest fix is to apply the changes to road transport. Maybe they should ban ship engines, or maybe look at aviation fuel, the amount these colossal vehicles burn is xxx times more than road transport. Just easier to apply the cost to change to the wheeled variety.

Visible tampering of the DPF=FAIL
DPF equipped vehicle emits any visible smoke during emission test=FAIL
Other emission control parts that are missing or tampered with etc like Nox sensor, EGR=FAIL

Correct...it all comes down to how its done and who maps it.
My DPF shell is still there and no visible signs of tampering= PASS
It was mapped by someone who knows what they are doing, not some wanabe mapper, who has the equipment but no idea how to use it,
I now have better performance, about 3mpg increase in fuel economy and zero smoke,=PASS
EGR is still there and intact so again no evidence of tampering = PASS
Car is so much nicer smoother and more responsive to drive best mod I have done.
