All depends how it's been treated and how well serviced etc. If it all appeared good and was cheap enough I can't see any reason not to.

Our ST2 is won about 124k and has had very few big problems.

In about 6 years its had other than general servicing. I did the timing belt, aux belts and water pump upon purchase.

Front shockers, pot hole fucked one near Santa Pod.
Front arm bushes
Clutch and DMF
Battery

Until this year I've spent a bit more, its had,

A/C condenser
2 lower ball joints
Inner cv boot
Rear discs and pads and caliper carrier bolts
Fuel pressure sensor.

Thats it, can't fault it to be honest, shit on fuel but whats to be expected of a 2.5T Good all round comfy car. The arse seems to be dropping out of them at the moment, Ive seen a few bargains from standard to well modified examples.

Always worth finding out if it's had a block mod done, basically shims placed between the liners in the block to stop them cracking.

is that something that’s done if you chuck power at it. I’d only use it as a daily every other week so not be modifying it in anyway

Block mod is a preventative measure against liner crack as even standard ones can go, it reduces risk of liner failure and most volvo 5 pots are good with correct mods upto 360ish hp then if you want more its forging or rs block needed, good cars tbh and enjoyed mine

Mine was about 300bhp, I owned it before the block mod was about, it was fine. However you do also hear of standard cars failing. They are great cars though, really miss mine and still regret selling it!

yeah only thing that worries me is the 143 thousand but it’s had a belt and pump. Can’t really find anything on line about high mileage ones. But it is a Volvo engine so should be good.

when you have block mod done they do all gaskets and belts at same time btw, gives a nice soundtrack the 5pot with the right exhaust and air filter system and high miles would not put me off if its been maintained well, I sold mine at the Beaulieu ford car show earlier this year as a girl saw it and hounded me to sell her it there n then

Well I got one it seems ok I’ve a few jobs to sort out as I’m fussy lol. Should have gone for one without leather as the seats are horrid it’s like cheap plastic certainly not as good as vw leather. Seems to go ok.

not all of the seat is actually leather, I think only the centre section is leather, the side bolsters and headrests are actually like you say cheap plastic synthetic stuff

I’ve not even used it yet lol. It’s at a mates garage as he is mopping and polishing it. I’ve a few little jobs to do on it. I’ve changed the plugs and put some optimax in it. One job I’ll have to do is the fuel sender as that reads wrong. Car seems ok
