We lost our Ghost Koi to a heron. Had grown from a 5" tiddler to a 13" monster we called jaws. Gutted we lost him.
Phone a fish place for advise mate. Deffo worth putting a net over the pond though to keep them in there

check for the water as nuts said, could be a parasite or desiese
do a water change....sounds to me like low oxygen levels, replacing up between 30-50% of the water should help.
is it over stocked?

Its pH may now be too low due to the amount of ammonia produced from either overfeeding or waste.
Koi are also known to jump during spawning - so netting at this time of year is good.
Are they doing anything else ? Gulping for air or flashing against the side of the pond as this suggests a different set of problems.
If pH is low adding 0.2% salt will bring a quick cure without affecting the water temperature. A gradual change of filtered water is best tho

letf the net on there as it is gettign close to sporning time, i tested the water and this is what i got
ammonia (nh3/nh+4) : in between 0ppm (mg/l) and .5 ?
nitrite (no-2) : 0ppm (mg/l)?
freshwater PH : in between 7.2 and 7.6 ?
so by lookin at that i would say the waters fine ? any one else think diffrent ?

I would say it's probably because the weather is getting a bit warmer and they realise it's that time of year
I keep fancy goldfish indoors and they sometimes drive me mad at night times, thrashing around the tank and wrecking the place - they are kept at 22 degrees, as they don't do well in cold temps, but this means they constantly think it's springtime
I would post on here, if you have any questions www.fishkeeping.co.uk There are a few pond experts on there - very helpful

your ammonia should b always 0, 0-5 is no good, also stress could of made them do this, koi are very sensitive, especially to ammonia, i dont have that much knowlage with pond fish but i used 2 inport tropical fish from the amozan, and
have experiance with expensive sensitive breeds discus and L-numbers
hope u get it sorted

right to sort your ammonia out, partial water change and also clean your filter, its your filter that kills the ammonia, once u do that, go to pet shop and get something in the region of bacterlife(bacterlife is for fish tanks) u want the pond version. put that in as you will kill most of the bacteria in ur filter when you clean it.
if this fail u will have to take a fish out and examine for disease or parasites, there might b something on the skin, too much slime, flukes, or your fish might b in the early stages of white spot, would'nt worry about oxygen as the colder the water the more oxygen and we havn't hit summer yet, hope this helps
