Ford mondeo titanium x sport
I know RitchieST and The Youth(Steve) have/had one of these. Are they any good?
I've noticed you can't get a petrol with a manual box(I wonder why). The 2.2 diesel and 2lt diesel engines come with manual boxes.
I've never had a diesel car so I would be a bit worried about egr/dpf faults.
But as car are they any good. I really like the look of them and I like the mk4 face lift versions with the bigger 19 inch wheels and different bumpers.
Any info would be helpful.

I didn't relies you couldn't get a manual tit x sport, i wouldn't mind a mk4 Mondeo to replace our mk2 focus when the time comes. i don't think there is much choice of petrol engines tbh, they are mainly diesel, which i wouldn't want really. I can just imagine them being nothing but grief.

The biggest problem with diesel is lack of use. They are no good for regular short journeys, they need to get hot and carry out a regen when required. If you can do this then they should (in theory) be more reliable than a petrol engine.
Me and the wife both have had diesels for the last 10 years, both doing about 12-15k a year, not had one problem in that time.

they look smart with the bigger wheels but looking at the parkers specs they seem to be lacking a little in the performance engines in both petrol and diesel. I wonder why they don't do an rs version ?

Have they ever done a RS Mondeo? 😂
My boss has got the Mondeo 2.2 tdci titanium x. He rates it covering about 18k a year but it only averages around 43mpg. He recently had it mapped at MSD, he said it goes better but mpg hasn't improved by anything worth mentioning.

The 2ltr petrol engine is about 240 bhp but it only comes in a auto.
They do a 2ltr diesel and a 2.2ltr. The 2.2 is just short of 200 bhp and is about 420nm torque. The 2.2 I test drove today went really well.
For the regen do you have to be driving at speed say 60 70 mph for it to regen??
Ritchie your mondeo looked really well. I love the look of your boot install.

Same as the s max, only auto in prrrol versions and from what Ive seen online Id steer well clear of fords auto box.
Had a mk4 Mondeo 2.0 tdci. The ony thing that I had issues with was the power steering pump whining its head off. Never found out what was. Abusing the issue after repacking it 4 times and a new rack.

I've just bought a MK4 Mondeo Titanium X (not a Sport) as a daily. Mine is a 57 plate so pre-facelift. Mine has a manual box attached to a 2.5 five pot turbo petrol engine, so not a bad combo (unless you care about fuel economy ).
Not picked it up yet, but seemed pretty well-equipped and, being a thirsty petrol, was good value compared to the diesels. I don't know what the diesel lumps are like in these. I think they're better than the ones in the MK3 Mondeo.
Think I will try and add the Sport bits to mine and a few other bits. Richie's looked lovely.

My titanium x was a comfy place to be.
Had enough poke for what it was like. Not heard any horror stories for the derv engines in the mk4 like the Mk3 has.
MikeyRobbo off here had a titanium X with the 2.5 and liked it.
Having a derv and not doing long runs itll only be a matter of time before it starts going tits up like all deisels.

I don't know have they? Merc do all range amgs, BMW do all range M cars, audi rs's etc etc but Ford only do an rs focus, even Vauxhall do vxr's through the range including the people carrier zafira ! Why don't they do full fat Red blooded rs mondeos?

probably because everyone would be crying about it having 5 doors and there not be a 3 door version available 😭

in to play. But ford never had a rally Sport Mondeo in competition which may be why the RS brand is saved for roadgoig versions like the focus and fiesta.
now rolling in a grand voyager
hoepfully back in a fast ford later this year. Dont need a 7 seater now.

and its strangely been reliable so far. Just a fuel pressure relief valve failed, swapped out and its been spot on.
The jeep looked the part and was a nice drive but Christ was
it unreliable. Just got to much to keep on the road.
Hoping for the Mk3 focus RS. Just got to wait and see how things pan out over the next 10 weeks. Failing that Mk3 focus ST. Or last choice Chrysler 300C SRT 8, 6.1 litre Hemi.

Car looks lovely Glenn. The facelift MK4 looks really smart in Titanium X Sport trim. I reckon the 200bhp diesel goes ok. Can you get a map for it?
On the subject of sporting Mondeo's, the pre-facelift 2.5T Titanium X Sport was badged as the XR5 Turbo in Australia and NZ. The MK2 Focus ST was badged as the XR5 down there too so other places got a MK4 Mondeo ST. For some reason they chose not to badge it as such in Europe.

for practicality and comfort mate its fantastic. Stow and go model so all the rear seats fold flat into the floor and its like a van.

I've one of the mk5 Mondeo 180bhp Diesels and I can't fault it. Mines a powershift, but I test drove an manual and thought it drove fine. The 2.2 should be a lot faster than mine!

Good choice Glenn, ive had mine 4 years this year and apart from brakes tyres and servicing its been fine so far
mine has a few niggling issues creeping in at 65k headlamp washer packed in, cruise control packed in, just not had chance to fix them yet.
overall the cars been great, what extras has your got glenn? mine has hill assist which is a great function
beware tho the 2.2 is a thirsty beast mine only does about 37mpg overall, frugal on a long run tho. good power specially when you get it moving in 3rd and 4th gear, 1st and 2nd seem boost limited which can be frustrating on a dry road im sure the chassis could take it.
the tyres can be expensive and the fronts don't last long but I fit Davanti's at 100 quid a corner which is pretty good.

Thanks people. Hopefully I can get the dpf to regen this week at school.
I got the car home and noticed it had some dice tyre valve caps on. I got to the last one and the cap pulled the metal part of the valve out so I had to take the wheel off and change the valve at work lol.
Bloody cars. There's a few small scratches here and there and a few stone chips but it's a used car at the end of the day. The car has a full service history too . It's last service was at a ford main dealer. It's got a pair of ford genuine wiper blades on. I bet they weren't cheap.
