Hello fellow nurburgring goers here's a fun read for you. This came through on the grape vine the other day and I'm a little shocked lol.
My mate James or as he is now known gravity James was blamed for a crash on the ring. The driver said he was too fat (17 stone )of a passenger. Now I'm no string bean and I have come off in the past but I have never blamed my weight or my passenger or even gravity for that matter lol.
Just looks and sounds like tyres were too hot and over cooked it into the bend with a central line to me.
Safe to say the poor car was hurt more than James and the driver .
Any vetrans shed some light on this bend and what's gone wrong here?

Seen it ..lads on drugs ... typical Honda driver excuse ..in reality he shifted late wrong line and the rear came light ..even if you had a heavy passenger you would notice on the first bend and adjust your driving for the understeer.

Exactly! I was cringing when he shifted down on the limiter doing a million rpm before the corner he crashed on.
Some of the comments are gold though lol!

Seems to be the demise of most badly driven front wheel drive cars...people go in too hot, lift of and lose the back...it used to happen a lot more in the 80's and 90's before tyre tech and traction control helped out.

It's how many 205 GTIs were written off back in the day.

Yup, weirdly you really struggle to unstick the rear of my standard 1.9gti on a wet and greasy roundabout (I try quite often), this is purely down to the modern tyres.
My daughter did pipe up in the car the other day to say to my wife that I had drifted the back of the 205 on the way to school the other day...the roundabout seemed to have diesel on it so we had to go around a few times.
My old Gti on original rubber could really be steered by the throttle. The modern tyres go round corners MUCH faster but it was more fun back then.

Yep, I had a very modified mk2 Golf with VR6 engine, H&R coil overs and 25mm front and massive rear 28mm ARBs and you could slide that easily on the throttle even with semi-slicks.
As you say, modern tyres are much better than the ditch finders the 80s cars had.
