Default 2007 focus mk2 2.0 petrol miss fire issue, any help appreciated?

As above, last nights whilst dropping my daughter home the eml came on and the car felt underpowered but as I was at 80mph I couldn't tell massively and then the eml started flashing, as we slowed down there was a huge miss fire anyway I nursed it home and plugged it in and all it came up with was a code for a miss fire, I took the plugs out and there was a tiny bit of the ceramic missing on number 4 and it was obvious this is where the miss fire was coming from, so in the hope of no damage being done I chucked some new plugs in, still miss fire on number 4 so I put a new coil on number 4 too but still no change so my thinking is its probably damaged a valve seat or piston ring but would this cause the missfire? The engine has been burning oil for a while now so it needs to be changed anyway but I don't want to change it and the miss fire be caused by something else, nothing else was showing on my code reader

Don’t the Mk2’s suffer with ecus?
Seems abit drastic to change the engine without checking things properly...

Engine needs changing anyway so ill do that then if there is still an issue ill go down the route of sorting that out, no other faults were shown on my code reader

Also the misfire seems to clear a lot above 3k revs and would have thought if it was ecu then I would get it through entire rev range?

check wiring to the coil connector as they suffer with breaks at the plug

I did that yesterday, everything seems fine, I think the bit of plug that's fallen off has got to have caused some damage but really need to do a compression check, engine needs changing anyways but how far do I go with a 10 year old car, but on the other hand I love this car as my daily, being a titanium its got everything I need in a motor on it without it being worth alot and having to worry about it in car parks

The ringlands break on these, could be the reason for burning oil.

They fetch good money for the kitcar market. They make good power but there not as strong as a Zetec.

Yeah its been burning oil for a while now and knew they had a problem with the rings, and its had a bit of a rumble from the small end for a month or so I knew it was on borrowed time, so now the missfire its time to swap engines, I know they make good money which is why I was surprised to find one in a breakers for as cheap as I did, even seen some broken ones on ebay for around £200

Those ones on eBay might be there for ages, breaker was being smart as he’s more than likely got twice what the car cost him on just the engine rather than it sitting wrotten away to be scrapped.

Good luck
