Default mk5 fiesta zetec s stinks of petrol when stationary, why?

No visible leaks, but get a strong smell of petrol inside and out side the car when engine is running and car is stationary. Smell quickly goes when engine is turned off or when I drive away. Car drives and starts fine for an old car.
any ideas chaps?

it does smell of petrol a bit by the exhaust, don't think it's been de cat though. I've only just bought it so will have to look.

Is the engine management light on? When i had mine i decatted it and it stunk of petrol because i was too lazy to extend the wiring on the lamba sensor so just left it unplugged so the fueling was a little ropey at times so may be worth having a check

No, no eml on. It's just a standard manifold, I can see the sensor in place. it didn't do it today

I don't know if it has, can't see any info any where that says it has. Fuel tank looks surprisingly good for a 17 year old ford
