Default Ford Sierra Alternator Problem

So my car isn't charging the battery at all! I am just after converting the car from a 1.8 to a 2.0 DOHC EFI the engine had been sitting for 8 or so years as had the alternator. Is there anything else other than the alternator not working that could be causing the problem? There is only two connections on the alternator aswell a thick red wire and a very thin black and blue wire there is room for another connection but there doesn't seem to be a wire anywhere? Also if it is the alternator is there anyway to revive it?

The third connection is not applicable in your case.

Does the warning light illuminate?

I haven't had time to put the dash in or cluster so im not sure! Could i just bypass the connect and put a wire on it to check for myself?

That will be why then!

You can apply power to the field terminal to test.

Ok thank you! So the cluster has to be in for the battery to charge?

Indirectly yes, the reason being is the WL is part of the circuit.

Nope, it excites the field coils.

No problem, I wouldn't do that though as it can cause damage!
